IRS phone scams continue in our area
I continue to receive calls from people who are called by a person saying they are from the IRS.  The IRS is not calling you.  They try to get you to charge a bill they say you owe.  The person is threatening to send the sheriff to your house. These are scams that obviously work.  Please warn family of this.
Veterans History Project

World War II, Korean War and Vietnam veterans are invited to come to the Lake County courthouse on November 11 to have their oral histories recorded. The typed transcripts will be archived at the Library of Congress as part of the Veterans History Project. The project aims to collect, preserve, and make accessible the personal accounts of American war veterans so that future generations may hear directly from veterans and better understand the realities of war. Any veteran interested in being interviewed or anyone interested in volunteering to assist in this project should contact Carol Cord at 847.377.3771, or visit our website for more information.
Information on Peterson Road Project
I have been asked by several of you for more of the particulars on the Peterson Road project. I received this information from the resident engineer.

The contractors on the Peterson Road project  are having to work with and around conflicts with gas pipelines throughout the limits of the project.  The three high pressure pipelines that wind though the project supply the majority of natural gas to North Shore Gas and in turn eastern Lake County.

The new pavement on the east side of Illinois Route 83 is in fact higher than the west side.  Traveling northbound on Illinois Route 83, the road curves at its intersection with Peterson Road from a north easterly to a northerly direction.  Because of this, the outside edge of the pavement needs to be raised, similar to a cloverleaf ramp to an interstate highway.  This appears to be more exaggerated now because the intersection is being widened from a total of three lanes to eight lanes.

Work by the pipeline's owner, Kinder Morgan, and their contractors has been steady, all while following rules and regulations set forth by the US Department of Transportation Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.  While large areas of work space are unavailable at this time to work on the construction of the new road, smaller areas just as important to the completion of the overall project are being worked on.  Some of these in the past couple of weeks include pavement widening on Midlothian Road, concrete pavement at the north west corner of Peterson Road and Illinois Route 83, concrete pavement at the south east corner of Peterson Road and Midlothian Road, landscaping and aggregate installation for the future asphalt shared use path.  They are anticipating resolution at one of the eight conflict locations late the week of September 15 with the others following suit in the coming weeks.

Development of the plans would have taken into consideration current design guidelines and policies at the intersection including pavement frictions, stopping distances and overall driver comfort to address the change in elevation.
