Running with Romeo |
As many of you have seen on the Turtle's Facebook page, we Roadrunners have been quite busy this spring and summer. We had three clutches and our current offspring was recently forced to "leave the nest." Can't remember if I told you about our approach to child rearing. We adults stay here at the Turtle year round (we are treated so well- no way do we want to leave.) and we shoo off our young ones once they have become accustomed to living on their own.

Corrales Music Series
Our Music in Corrales Concert series is in full swing with a broad range of musicians including pianist, vocalists, celtic harpist, saxophone and guitar. Complimenting the fine musicians who play in the series is the extraordinary venue of the Historic Old San Ysidro Church. Artists enjoy the acoustics of the church and the intimate 175-seat limit that allows personal interaction with the audience. Details available on their website.

Greetings!,
In the September issue of New Mexico Magazine (actually got to read it when it arrived) there was an interesting article about Agritourism in NM. They mentioned that US food tourists get their feasting fix on the agricultural bounty found in other countries. No need to leave the States because New Mexico has lots of communities where one can experience agrotourism. Corrales is a perfect example of a NM Agritourism community with our vineyards and wineries, the Growers Market, restaurants using locally grown food, the fragrance of roasting chilies in the fall, horses for recreation, along with llamas, sheep and alpacas which are used in fiber arts.
Come visit us,
Nancy & Dallas

Alpaca Ranch
When our grandson Lleyton visited this summer we went to the Albuquerque Alpaca Ranch, just a short drive from the Turtle. It was great fun-they have alpacas in all colors and we saw a 5 day old alpaca romping in the field. We got to pet the alpacas and Lleyton even took one for a walk. They have a lovely gift shop with fine apparel and yarns and offer scheduled classes- as well as private knitting and felting class for three people. Plan a Girlfriends' Getaway at the Turtle and include a private class with your friends. It's a great place to visit.

Balloon Fiesta
We have just finished another WONDERFUL Balloon Fiesta!! It is a not-to-be missed event-in fact National Geographic rated it as one of the Top Ten Events in the fall. No matter how many pictures you see, there's nothing like being on the field among a sea of huge balloons as they inflate and glide into the sky. Here's a glimpse of what an evening "Glow" is like. We crew with a balloonist and love to introduce the sport to our guests. Dallas even got to fly at Fiesta this year. | Balloon Fiesta |
It's not too early to make reservations for next year-we had 16 room nights for 2013 booked by a former guest before 2012 Fiesta started. |
Just looking for a Holiday Get Away?
There are some interesting activities in the Village throughout the holiday season. The Holiday Art Fest and Fine Crafts Show include lovely work by local artists- great places to take care of your holiday shopping. At the Corrales Author Event chat with more then 20 local authors and their books make wonderful holiday gifts! The featured author, Jane Butel will be cooking a festive NM specialty. The Starlight Parade gets everyone in the holiday spirit! "Las Posadas" is the re-enactment of Mary and Joseph's experiences on Christmas Eve finding a place to stay. This is an old tradition in Mexico and New Mexico and will be held at the Old Church on Thursday, December 20 at 7 pm.

Sunflowers Galore
With the help of our bird friends, we had an abundance of "volunteer sunflowers". While the guests enjoyed them throughout the summer, the goldfinches are relishing them now. |
