Mary Ann's blog!

October was a big month for Get In Touch, and you'll see many pictures below from people all over the world that have joined us in our mission to "change the world one girl at a time."
We were especially excited when pop-star Justin Bieber Tweeted about Get In Touch on October 25th!  Here's a screenshot of his Tweet and the crazy-high number of times it was Retweeted - over 22,000 of his almost 30 million fans!
Our website, which normally has about 80 visits per day, had 4,000 - a 500% increase!  We know that girls all over the world now know a little more about Get In Touch, raising an awareness about our program that, well, only JB could get us so quickly!
We cannot let this newsletter go by without sending our love and prayers out to those that have suffered so terribly in the wake of last week's Superstorm Sandy.
The Get In Touch home office is located in the hard hit shoreline community of Milford, CT.  Our office escaped damage, but our hearts go out to all of those up and down the east coast that have lost much.
If you can give, even a little, please consider making a $10 donation to relief efforts by texting REDCROSS to 90999.

Hope Lives!

National "GIT Your Pink On!"® Day

Bunnell What's my favorite thing to do on "GIT Your Pink On!®" Day? Speaking to the Senior Class Girls at Bunnell High School in Stratford, CT, like I've been doing for many years! Smart, strong, funny, engaged and compassionate, I always feel that the world is heading in the right direction when I leave these phenomenal young ladies!

Next came a visit to the students at Roberto Clemente Leadership Academy in New Haven, CT.  These mini-philanthropists were so excited to get their pink on.  What a great way to spend the day - surrounded by students who are changing the world!

Meanwhile, ADP Allentown employees had a bake sale, the UVA women's rowing team sported pink shirts and Laces for Lana, Owensboro, KY's Davies County High School's football team wore pink socks, the Lauralton Hall students got pinkified, Hamden Hall's girls soccer team and Camden Hills Regional High School's students sported pink in some creative ways, and Daviess County HS turned their mascot into a Pink Panther.  Many others showed their support, too.  Thanks, everyone!

Thanks, Shop Rite!
Four Connecticut Shop Rite stores in Hamden, Milford, Stratford and West Haven came together in a big way to support GIT during September.  Customers made donations as they checked out, contributing over $21,000, in the most successful fundraising event the stores have ever done!

We couldn't be happier, and are so grateful not only to the donors, but to the cashiers and to the Garofalo family for their generous support for the third year in a row.
October Was FUN!

We had a busy, busy month, with friends everywhere GIT-in' their chance to have fun and raise funds at the same time.  In Pennsylvania:
In Connecticut:
  • Milford Radio hosted its second annual Pink Party at Cafe Atlantique;
  • New Haven's Lyric Hall Theater and M&M Productions donated proceeds from "Love, Loss and What I Wore," a play by sisters Nora and Delia Ephron and hosted a silent auction;
  • Material Girls of Orange and Chico's at Milford Marketplace both donated 10% of their October 19 profits;
  • Dr. Andrew Paterna and his team at Shoreline Family Chiropractic and Wellness donated all proceeds from their "Get BACK at Breast Cancer: You Donate, We Adjust!" event on October 20, and...

Our 8th annual Pretty In Pink brunch, the one that started it all, was held in Milford, CT!  "Woman of Strength" Maritza Rosa received a standing ovation from the attendance record-setting crowd for her inspirational talk on survivorship and education.  Olympic Gold Medalist Taylor Ritzel gave a moving tribute to her mother, Lana, whose passing led her Yale crew teammates to create Laces for Lana and which inspired Taylor to train for (and win!) Olympic gold.  "Woman of Strength" Dr. Kelly Ann Harkins shared what it was like to be part of the Healing Team for the breast cancer survivors she treats each day.  We not only celebrated the honorees, we learned from them.  Hope Lives!

Our hearts are full!  THANK YOU to everyone who donated their time, their funds and their attention to GIT this past month.  We are honored and humbled by your generosity!

Oprah Magazine's
"100 Women, 100 Shoes"
Crocs Shoes Contest Winner!

I was thrilled to host an event at Milford's Walnut Beach, where 100 women joined me in a group breast self exam lesson and a photo shoot to celebrate GIT's winning the Oprah Magazine/Crocs Cares contest.  Each of those wonderful women

donated $50 to receive a pair of Crocs, a GIT tee, and a Daisy Wheel.

That's $5,000 for GIT - and most importantly, 100 women who now know how to BSE!

Crocs at the Beach

The New Haven Register wrote a great piece about GIT's work, and there's a fun video of the BSE lesson, too.  Click here to read and watch.

Now, THAT's A Bra We Like!

ArtBra Our friend 13-year old Natalie Booth has a great sense of humor! Look at the Daisy Wheel-inspired bra she created for ArtBra New Haven's event.  Donations from the event went to New Haven's Smilow Cancer Center, and Natalie, whose mom Angela is a breast cancer survivor, helped GIT the word out about us.  Way to go, Natalie!
