The Dog & Me
by Six Flowers
---
|
The dog and me, we'll find the sea
And run beside the waves
I'll slip on stones, he'll hunt for bones
Beside the sea, the dog and me.
Beside a fire, burning higher
Than any human pain could be
We'll slowly sleep, as embers leap,
And sorrows won't exist for me.
I'll find a dog as lost as me
And offer him my bones.
And if he loves me, tired and small,
We'll share a life, our love, our all.
The dog and me, we'll find the sea
That washes broken love away.
I'll wake for him; he'll wait for me.
We'll always be; the dog and me.

There always seems to be something happening at DRTB. Check out below on all our goings on!
"We are alone, absolutely alone on this chance planet: and, amid all the forms of life that surround us, not one, excepting the dog, has made an alliance with us." - Maurice Maeterlinck (1862 - 1949)

Dexter the Not Quite Million Dollar Baby
Recently Miami-Dade Animal Services reached out to us for help. An approximately 5-year-old, 57 pound, intact male Dalmatian was found stray wandering the streets. He looked beat-up with a big laceration on his leg. However, the biggest concern was that he could not urinate well. When he tried, his urine came out in slow drips. This can be deadly; so thanks to volunteers Linda and Dick M. in Miami for getting this boy out of the shelter and immediately to the vet. Turns out Dexter was indeed blocked by stones and had immediate surgery. Vet techs said "Dex" was bright, alert and responsive. Linda describes him as licking her face all the way to and from the vet. Since he required immediate attention, we did not have the chance to fund raise for Dexter. His medical bill was close to $3,000.00. If you would like to help us with this big, handsome boy, please consider donating through our PayPal DONATE button. Once we get him totally well, he will go up for adoption to a loving, forever home.

Time Again to Submit Your Photos!
For the Love of Rescues Calendar 2017
Once again it is time for our annual request of our previous & current adopters to submit photos of your Dals & dogs to the annual fundraising calendar For the Love of Rescues. Our dogs are often found on the pages of this beautiful calendar. This FTLOR has been a wonderful fundraiser for us and the sale of each calendar brings $10 back to rescue. So we ask you to please read the guidelines then search for your best rescue pictures, and submit them to help our future rescue dogs!

The arrival of new fosters has made all the difference as to what we can do. This month we were able to take in HEIDI, LILLY BELLE, TUG, & DEXTER. Best news is SNOOPY & CHIP are adopted and TUG & HEIDI have adoptions almost completed.
So for 2016, with 8 dogs carrying over from 2015, we've taken in 10 new dogs & 3 courtesy posts, and of this 11 have been adopted into loving homes with 12 & 13 due. We now have 9 care-for-lifers, leaving our current responsibility of caring for 13 Dals & dogs... ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS!
Your help is very much needed, especially getting these dogs noticed at events or shared on social media.
Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!

Good Works from the Community
New Tampa Women's Club helps DRTB
Early in April we were invited by Alison B. to speak at the New Tampa chapter's monthly meeting of the Greater Florida Women's Club, which was held at the local YMCA. Pat H. spoke about DRTB's mission and current need of fosters while highlighting several personally memorable dogs she worked to rescue. Pat K. presented DRTB with a $200 check from the ladies along with other donations, such as money, gas cards, cash, laundry soap, a large crate, which would support our rescue. After business was completed, the women made some adorable tee shirt tug toys which will be shared with out dogs.
