Me, My Dog, And The Beach
by
Karen Curcio

To the beach, my dog and I run,
Play catch frisbees, just for fun.
Umbrella's to block the sun,
Waves crash upon the sand.
My dog chases gulls that try to land. Sky so blue, sand so white,
My dog and I, were up at daylight.
Winds are warm and blowing slight,
Ocean sprays, dog strays,
Sand blows, through our toes. It gets cool, the sun goes down,
My dog and I, head back to town.
It's time we leave the beach to rest.
After all, we were just a guest.
All the birds have flown away.
We will come back, another day.
Just me and my dog, to play.

My Best Friend
 by
Abby Jenkins

Black and White

Thick and furry
Fast as the wind
Always in a hurry
Couple of spots
Rub my ears
Always comes his name he hears
Loves his ball it's his favorite thing
What's most fun for him? Everything!
Great big tongue that licks my face
Has a crate his very own space
Big brown eyes like moon pies
He's my friend till the very end!

It's the "dog days of summer" once again. And seems like it's also time to dump your male Dalmatian! Buckley, the older stray Dal we took in, has had a fantastic happy ending. See below. Next came Tony - confiscated for severe neglect. MANY MANY THANKS to everyone who donated to help with Tony's heartworm treatment and on-going care. He got his first injection on 6/23 and seems to be doing well. The treatment will take 2-3 months and he'll be getting plenty of TLC during it all. He's already put on 9 pounds and is starting to look like a dog that is cared for. Just in is Tex - a senior stray found in Tampa... please read his story and plea for foster home. WE ALWAYS know that we can't help these poor guys without you. You are some of the sweetest souls on this earth. Thank you for being a part of the solution vs. the problem.

"The dog has got more fun out of Man than Man has got out of the dog, for the clearly demonstrable reason that Man is the more laughable of the two animals." - James Thurber
Looking For a Soft Spot to Land
Foster or Permanent Home Needed Now!!!

TEX is another purebred male Dal that was obviously dumped in Tampa. He was posted on Hillsborough Lost and Found Pets for some time, but no one has come to claim him.  He had no chip or collar with a tag. Thankfully, the nice people who found him contacted us vs. turning him into the shelter. Unfortunately they can't keep him as they have 3 children and another dog - not to mention a pool that TEX has already fallen into due to his bad senior eyesight.

We had Dr. Hong look TEX over and updated on all vaccines. He is a purebred, neutered, black & white, male Dal. Good news is he is heartworm negative!!  (That's a first for us lately)  Also, he is good with other dogs and children, housebroken and very well mannered. He did have hookworms and a skin infection - both of which we are treating. He is guesstimated to be around 8 - 10 years of age. He can see close up but his long distance eyesight is failing, but as anyone who has had an older dog knows - they ARE THE BEST!!!!!

So please consider giving TEX a place to hang his hat... either as a foster or a permanent hat hook! Email daldoglady@netzero.net if you can help.
Dog Days Ahead

Waiting to see what the warm days bring

June has been a busy month for us, especially with transports. Our month started with BUCKLEY's arrival and a quick transport to new family in North Carolina (see article). Then there was a senior Dal we helped spring from Hillsborough and is now in the care of Trish D.. JUAN's arrival in Atlanta had us scrambling transport again and he will soon be joining his new mom Mary in Colorado with lots of land to romp. We then helped a scared little JAYJAY out of Polk and she will be hanging with the Nances through heartworm treatment. Just as we were catching our breath we got notice of TONY, an emaciated boy in Clay county. Gregg P. jumped in to help get him out of there and he will be with the Boh's through his heartworm treatment. Beautiful LUCY from Qatar arrived in Miami and a quick run by Linda & Dick McL. across Alligator Alley set her in to her forever home. Our final arrival this month is TEX (see article).

We had four adoptions this month. In addition to Buckley & Lucy, HONEY and DANDEE found new homes.  We also had to say Goodbye for now to DARCY as she crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

So for 2015, with 4 dogs carrying over from 2014, we have taken in an additional 17 dogs, 3 returnees, and 13 have been adopted into loving homes. We have 13 care-for-lifers, leaving our current responsibility of caring for 21 Dals & dogs... ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS!

Your help is very much needed, especially getting these dogs noticed at events or shared on social media.

Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:

Buckley Lands his Home
Life On The Dalmatian Plantation in North Carolina

Wow! Could BUCKLEY have had any better life-changing story? We think not. It started with a call that a stray, skinny, but awfully sweet Dal had been hanging out in a shed in rural Florida. Obviously he had been there for a few days... with no food or water. His skin was in horrible shape having been infested with fleas and ticks. DRTB awesome volunteers sprang into action once again. Alison B. drove out immediately to get the boy and take him to Dr. Hong. After giving him a much-needed bath and meds to help his skin, a plea went out to find someplace to put him. The Universe definitely heard this older spots prayers and answered big time. Sheri in North Carolina said, "hey, we can take one more... we only have six!" - so stepped up to foster Buckley. Spotty hero Pat H. went into "transport mode" and found two awesome pilots willing to fly this boy to Atlanta where Sheri would pick him up. A huge thank you to our flying heros  Susan D. and Michael Y.. After only a couple of hours in his new place, Buckley became ALAMO and it was quickly decided he was a permanent member of their Dalmatian pack. Being older, Alamo definitely came with some needed medical care beyond his first check-over. Sheri and Eric J. stepped up and assured us that he would be well taken care of... not to mention given more love than he probably had in his whole previous life. We thank everyone SO much for helping this boy. Our prayer to the Universe would be to have this kind of happy ending for all the homeless fur-babies out there. Until that happens, we keep plugging away at one miracle at a time. Thanks to all our contributors also for keeping our rescue efforts alive and well!!!!  That's always a prayer answered.
A Hot Mess No Longer
Chloe "Pays It Forward"

DOTTIE as she was named at the shelter in Pell, Alabama, was a mess. She came in as a stray, not spayed, heartworm positive with a huge mass. Thanks to a bunch of caring. wonderful humans (yes there are still some out there!) today CHLOE is living a wonderful life with new owners Ken and Sheryl W. in Florida and giving back to the community. Chloe's new owners having her looking BEAUTIFUL and taking her out and about doing volunteering. She is much loved by everyone she meets and loves right back. The dog spirit is such an admirable one... no matter how rough their lives have been, with love, they bounce back with such spirit. We continue to be amazed. Thanks to all who made Chloe's new life possible.
