My Forever Pet
Author unknown

There's something missing in my home,

I feel it day and night,

I know it will take time and strength

before things feel quite right.

But just for now, I need to mourn,

My heart -- it needs to mend.

Though some may say, "It's just a pet,"

I know I've lost a friend.

You've brought such laughter to my home,

and richness to my days.

A constant friend through joy or loss

with gentle, loving ways.

Companion, friend, and confidante,

A friend I won't forget.

You'll live forever in my heart,

My sweet, forever pet.

It was nice to see everyone who turned out at our Chili's fundraiser, thank you so much for being a part of our day. While we haven't had the volume of dogs as in the past, we are still in need of foster homes so we can help whatever spot comes our way. Summertime can be slow for adoptions, but it is high on the "discard your pet" list as people are on the move. We hope everyone enjoys their summer and ask that you please be on the watch for pets left in hot cars... a huge no-no as it takes very little time for a pet to succumb to heat stroke. Have a great summer everyone!

Save the Date!
Dal-loween becomes the Fall FestiDal at Fergs!

The planning has begun and we have just confirmed the date for our Fall FestiDal (formerly known as Dal-loween) for Saturday November 14th at Ferg's in St. Petersburg.

We hope you will all be able to join us there. We have a flyer prototype ready. While the name may have changed we plan on all the old fun and a few new surprises... see you there!
Sliding into Summer

Waiting to see what the warm days bring

This May brought us a rough little spot named WINNIE T, a dog with many issues. Here is an update from Susan:

THANK YOU so very much to all of you who contributed to help the spotted girl who was recently abandoned in a backyard to fend for herself. We are happy to say that she has been named Winnie T and has gotten the best of veterinary care. They believe her to be approximately 7 years of age but it is evident that she has been neglected over the years. Winnie had a dental done including one canine tooth extraction. She has had x-rays taken, biopsies of her masses (we are awaiting those results), vaccinations, heartworm test, and meds for her stiffness and walking pain which appears to be a condition of her spine. She is now nice and clean, free of fleas and worms and living comfortably at Karen H's "foster farm". Her vet bill has come to $1,900.00 so you can understand how much we appreciate your donations. We could not have helped this girl without you.

In addition to WINNIE we had 2 courtesy posts of Dals DANDEE & MIA looking for new homes. We also have 2 more Qatar Dals due to arrive. JUAN is flying in June 6th to Atlanta... TRANSPORT/FOSTERING help is welcome & LUCY will arrive Miami on 6/20.

Good news is that CALYPSO was officially adopted by her foster Dad and cutie-patootie FRECKLES also found his fur-ever home. Plus JAKE is now adopted and will soon be arriving in his new home.

So for 2015, with 4 dogs carrying over from 2014, we have taken in an additional 10 dogs, 3 returnees, and 9 have been adopted into loving homes. We have 14 care-for-lifers, leaving our current responsibility of caring for 20 Dals & dogs... ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS!

Your help is very much needed, especially getting these dogs noticed at events or shared on social media.

Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:

Honey

Tubby
Dandee
  Juan

Lucy

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
Third Time the Charm!
This bouncy gal rebounds no more!

Annie, a young Dal/Hound mix had one heck of a time finding the right home. Although very sweet, she does have some unruly manners that made it hard for her to stay put in her first two attempted adoptive homes. Thankfully, the perfect home has found her and she has a Lab mix named Zoey for a sister. When we asked new Mom Bobbie how it was going she wrote, "We love her. She seems to be very happy and so are we." Bobbie kept a hilarious log of Annie's antics on Facebook for her first few days in her new home. Annie pulled stunts such as immediately knocking down the fence to get at a squirrel, running out the garage door and down the street when Dad came home and going in and out the dog door at least 300 times a day so Mom had to endlessly mop floors. However Mom and Dad are not phased by it all and in fact are somewhat amused. Thank goodness for the cute hound gal who it has taken so long to find a home.  So a BIG THANKS to them for their fortitude and patience and another HUGE THANKS to foster Mom Karen H. for fostering Annie and continuing to take her back.
