Is It Christmas Yet?
by
Jim Ness
What do you mean this isn't my present
Didn't Santa wrap it for me,
His picture's all over the paper
As plain as I can see.
I'm sure I read my name on it
Although your writing is hard to read,
But it smelled very familiar
So is it all right if I proceed?
I'm too young to have any patience
I've just got to see what it is,
Why do I have to wait till Christmas
I've no time to answer your quiz.
Ok, but I've drooled on this ribbon
And the paper got a little wet,
I've enjoyed our conversation
But tell me, is it Christmas yet?

As DRTB's 11th year comes to a close, we give thanks for every dog we have saved and every kind person who has helped us save them. For the financial help, the fostering help, the transporting help, volunteering at events help... we appreciate you so very much. It takes all of it to make the rescue keep working.
Although our numbers are down from last year, we were able to rescue approximately 50 dogs. Some were seniors, some seriously injured, sick or deaf, a few purebred Dals with most Dal mixes - but each and every one is so special and so loved by their new owners. As a rescue, we have never turned away the hardship cases.

Year after year it gets harder to keep it all going. It can become emotionally exhausting. People's lives change and they can't help anymore. But the animals will never have a choice in the matter. So as long as there are some of you who help us keep going, we will continue to uphold our mission of saving as many dogs lives as we can. Happy & Healthy Holidays... bless you for not forgetting the ones in need.

~Susan

The $2,500 Saved Pup

Our web auction is up & other help needed

The past two months DRTB's funds have taken quite the hit. In October, we rescued Hudson - a precious 4-month-old boxer mix pup with a broken leg who was about to be put to sleep. Having his broken leg mended cost us $3,550. A month ago, we pulled another adorable little spotted boy named Spunky who appears to have been abused. Seemingly healthy but very thin, he came down with pneumonia and had to be hospitalized not once, but twice which cost us $2,500. Given the fact that we can only ask a $150 adoption fee for these rescues, you can see how quickly our resources dwindle down.

Please consider giving a holiday donation or bidding in our website auction (ends 12/6) to help us replenish our resources to keep saving these animals who have done nothing to deserve the pain they have to deal with. We think it will make your heart feel so much better than more "stuff". The pups will love you for it too.
Making the Holidays Bright

Some get new homes while others keep looking

We have had some expensive dogs suddenly hit rescue, we finally paid off HUDSON's bill then SPUNKY got very ill requiring two hospitalizations. Coupled with a tight foster situation our intakes for November was limited to just SANDY. Returnee LILY is back in rescue & is again looking for her forever home. Luckily, some of our other dogs got adopted, they are HUDSONBOBO, & JAK! They get to be "home for the holidays" and we couldn't be happier for them! Hoping a few more will also find a way HOME!

So for 2014, with 14 dogs carrying over from 2013, we have saved 47 dogs and 40 have been adopted into loving homes. We increased our care-for-lifers to 16 dogs. This leaves our current responsibility caring for 25 Dals & dogs... ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS!

Your help is very much needed, especially getting these dogs noticed at events or shared on social media.

Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:

Jak - Home For The Holidays

Dreams can come true

Found as a stray in Miami, Jak had a rough start, but it's going to be smooth sailing now. Volunteers Linda and Dick pulled him to safety and saw Jak through heartworm treatment. Jak was then moved to fosters Zac and Amanda in Tampa who found he was an amazingly good dog.

At the same time, a call came from Brian in Jacksonville who had adopted starvation cases Freckles and Blue from us years back. They had both now passed and Brian was missing a spot. After talking to Zac, he decided Jak would be a perfect fit. Pat H. transported him up and the rest, as they say, is history. A note from Brian:

Wanted to thank all of you for your help with Jak. Jak is adjusting well, eating and playful, seems to be very happy with his new home, loves the fenced in yard and porches (also likes to sleep in the bed). Jak is a wonderful dog, very loving and well mannered, I know that we will have a great life together. Thanks everybody. Brian
