THE GIFT
by
J. M. Berry
Eyes fearful, paws worn
A sorrowful sight
So forlorn
Love they said would be the cure
For the suffering
You had endured
So our family grew that day
We brought you home
With us you'd stay
Slowly, gently the bond it grew
Faithful, loyal
Loving, true
Looking back it's so unclear
How we got by
Without you here
Trusted companion,
devoted friend
You give and give
It never ends
They said we were a gift to you
But now we know
Who rescued who

Does anyone remember the bad old days when Dalmatians were tossed over fences and filled the shelters??? It almost feels like that is happening again. Every time we look up there is another Dal needing rescue. More than 2/3rds of this month's intake was a purebred, 1/2 of those seniors. We are doing our best to get them safe. We are so very grateful to those who have stepped into the breach for them. We need you volunteers and supporters to keep us going... it takes all of us to save a spot!

Help Us Save More Mollys!

Meet MOLLY. A blue-eyed, deaf, 10-year-old, spotty girl who was dropped off at Hillsborough County Animal Services to be euthanized. Thankfully, seeing that she was perfectly healthy and still wagging her tail, we were contacted by the shelter to see if we could help her out. Her owners, who had her since she was 7-months-old, felt she wasn't happy anymore and wanted her gone. Really???? We think she looks pretty darn happy lazing on Foster Mom Sandy B.'s sofa!!! Sandy said she is fitting in wonderfully with the rest of the seniors and seems perfectly content. (Thanks so much to Sandy for taking her in and to Alison B. for picking her up from the shelter!)

Won't you help us save more dogs like Molly? One of our supporters has made an incredibly generous offer... for the first $750.00 raised by donors joining our Mutt Strut team, she will personally match it!!!!! That would be $1,500.00 to help us help dogs like Molly... left to die so unfairly before her time.

So PLEASE, CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW to SUPPORT US with your donation. There are so many other "MOLLYs" out there waiting for our help.  THANK YOU!!!!

OMG... They Are EVERYWHERE!

Shelters overfull and so many Dals

9 or 10-year-old SOPHIE needs a foster! Breaks our heart to see a senior discarded.
July was an incredibly busy rescue month, I think few of us can remember when so many purebred Dals hit the shelters all at once. It didn't help that every shelter in our area was beyond capacity begging the public for help. We took in TWELVE DOGS (#13 due to arrive soon)! Joining rescue was DOMINO, NUTMEG, JAX aka HONEY, KYLE, PERDITA aka PENNY, PONGO, BAILEY, LUCKY, MOLLY, JAK, LULU, & SOPHIE. As many were purebred we have been able to move them quickly into fosters or adoptive homes... some still are waiting finalization. Our completed adoptions are DOMINO, LILY, KYLE, PENNY and PAUL. Courtesy post MIA just recently found her new home also!

There has been a change in our care-for-life dogs too. CANAAN and CHARLEY joined our other spots across the Rainbow Bridge as did senior boy TOBY. SPLASH and PRINCESS will move into their slots. Some of the dogs entering rescue this month will require our continued support so Dropbox PONGO & LUCKY are now considered care-for-life. We also have 14-year-old FRANCIS due to arrive so she could easily be #17!

So for 2014, with 14 dogs carrying over from 2013, we have 28 dogs adopted into loving homes. We increase our care-for-lifers to 16 dogs. This leaves our current responsibility caring for 27 Dals & dogs...  ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS!

Your help is very much needed, especially getting these dogs noticed at events or shared on social media.

Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:

DRTB Welcomes New Foster Homes!!!!!

You are vital to what we do

Elizabeth & HONEY joined Tony at the monthly meet up at Pet Supplies Plus in Clearwater!
Foster homes are the lifeline for rescue. Without them, we can't save any dogs from the shelters. They must have a safe place to go while getting ready for a new, forever home. Since we don't always know the background of the dogs we pull, some fosters take absolutely no effort at all. Others can present an occasional challenge. The effort is always rewarded with unconditional love from the dog whose life you saved. To see them happy after narrowly escaping a certain death is so worth it all. So THANK YOU and WELCOME to Elizabeth, Carisa, Gregg, Cindy & Ed, Margo, Tyler, and Loraine. We can't tell you enough how appreciated your are. Let the tail of your foster dog remind you every day. Of course, we LOVE our foster Moms & Dads who help us over and over again and who have helped us in the past. There is a special place in heaven for all of you!
