DOG AROUND THE BLOCK
by
E.B. White
Dog around the block, sniff,
Hydrant sniffing, corner, grating,
Sniffing, always, starting forward,
Backward, dragging, sniffing backward,
Leash at taut, leash at dangle,
Leash in people's feet entangle-
Sniffing dog, apprised of smellings,
Love of life, and fronts of dwellings,
Meeting enemies,
Loving old acquaintance, sniff,
Sniffing hydrant for reminders,
Leg against the wall, raise,
Leaving grating, corner greeting,
Chance for meeting, sniff, meeting,
Meeting, telling, news of smelling,
Nose to tail, tail to nose,
Rigid, careful, pose,
Liking, partly liking, hating,
Then another hydrant, grating,
Leash at taut, leash at dangle,
Tangle, sniff, untangle,
Dog around the block, sniff.

Thank you SO much to everyone who came out to support DRTB at the Chili's event! It was so nice to see many of our "spotted family" who always pull together for the love of our Dals. With your help, we were able to get LADY's hip bone put back in its socket and she is healing wonderfully. Her young family (who also raised money) is so very grateful to everyone for helping to keep their family together. Now on to the next waiting in need!  Read on for upcoming events and happenings...

Mutual Support

Out of tragedies 2 lives work as one

Kendall's sad life in Georgia.
KENDALL was once a malnourished & neglected Dalmatian that we suspect was being hit for punishment in an undeserving home in rural Georgia. Mary B. is a survivor of 9/11 who suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. The two found each other through DRTB. Now "KINDLE FIRE", a handsome 60 pounds, stays at her side day and night.

Now renamed KINDLE FIRE his life has been transformed!
KINDLE FIRE also works to earn his keep. He has a vest, certificate from the Dept of Justice, and has the same powers as a service dog. He can fly and live wherever she chooses to go. Mary has certainly done her part to repay him by getting him as healthy as a horse and looking as handsome as any Dalmatian ever. As she puts it "He is just a big dog full of love."  A VERY happy ending for two strangers in need.
Summer Adoption Doldrums Hit Early

So many out there that need foster homes yet to be saved

PONGO is a lucky dog, he found a home with lots of love for him!
The rate of adoption is still moving slowly for several dogs, we'd really like to get these wonderful dogs into homes. In May we had several intakes, CHAYSE & PONGO were two of those dogs who found homes very quickly and were adopted by their fosters. More May intakes are KIKO who winged his way to Florida with PNP Pilot Alan, TOBY a dumped senior from Suwannee County, and SPOTS (now called MAGGIE) a heartworm positive gal from Miami-Dade. While we hope adoptions begin to pick up once the school year ends, it is hard to predict, it'd be nice to get more dogs safe from the shelters.

So for 2014, with 14 dogs carrying over from 2013, we have 19 dogs adopted into loving homes. We hold steady at 14 care-for-life dogs. This leaves our current responsibility caring for 24 Dals & dogs...  ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS!

Your help is very much needed, especially getting these dogs noticed at events or shared on social media.

Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:

Splash
Senior

 Princess
 BoBo

Rocky

We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let
us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!
And The Beat (OK, Dals) Goes On

As do our Fundraisers

TOBY enjoys breakfast in bed :)
And we go on and on and on...
Always...
Never ending...

TOBY and MAGGS are two more of our recent intakes. Sadly, both are elderly dumped by uncaring owners. Both need a lot of TLC... MAGGS has heartworms that need to be treated. To raise money to keep these rescues coming in, going out and given the treatment they need, we have two more fundraisers planned for this year.

Strut Your Mutt 2014 will be a VIRTUAL walk on Saturday, September 6th in Jacksonville, FL.  Look for more info to come soon on how you can join our team for the event and help us raise much-needed funds.
