Room for One More Dog

by

Unknown

I see by his coat he must be a stray,
The untidy look gives him away.
He's lost his will and is so thin,
Hasn't eaten, since God knows when.
I know as I coax him through the door,
There's always room for one more.

The other night in the freezing rain,
 That little female came again.
Matted and soaked, crying in need,
Lost and alone with babies to feed.
Her pleading eyes, I couldn't ignore,
There's always room for one more.

There's the poor doggy, standing in the rain,
I've tried to entice him time and again.
One ears lopsided, the other's been torn,
Blind in one eye, lost and forlorn.
He's coming now, so I'll open the door,
There's always room for one more.

These stories are true,
 As I've said before,
There's always room for one more.

October is going to be busy, busy, busy! We have a lot of events coming up, our major annual fundraiser, and lots of dogs that need to get out to be seen. We need our volunteers more than ever. If you can spare them some time and get dogs to events we'd so appreciate it.... these puppies need new homes!

"Sometimes I read about someone saying with great authority that animals have no intentions and no feelings, and I wonder, 'Doesn't this guy have a dog?'" -  Frans de Waal
Picnic Time Is Upon Us!!!!
Twelve Days counting down

Dal-loween 2013 Flyer
Set your calendars, iPhones, clocks, etc. for Saturday, October 12th at 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. to join us as we celebrate 10 years of saving spotted lives. Details of the event are on the flyer... print out copies to give to all your dog loving family and friends. Our annual picnic is our biggest fundraiser of the year. We need all of you to help make it a success so we can continue the tradition for another year.

DRTB Co-Founder Pat Shepler will even be there for this one. So come by to say hello to old friends and meet some new ones.  See you at Lake Park soon!

Adoptions Way Down

The Doldrums have hit us

ONLY ONE ADOPTION THIS PAST MONTH! We haven't had this few adoptions for years. Yet there are dogs in shelters all around us and little we can do. COCOA & LUNA we the two lucky dogs we took in this month... their picture was just too cute to ignore. NASH is the only adoption this month, he'll be leaving for his new home tomorrow.

We began 2013 with 9 dogs carrying over from 2012. So far we have brought in 74 more dogs of which 3 are returnees. Our adoption count for 2013 is 55 dogs into loving homes. Responsibility for caring for 30+ Dals & dogs remains the same. ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed, especially getting these dogs noticed at events or shared on social media.

Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:

From Rags to Riches
Our Dottie is flying high!

Chloe, formerly known as Dottie from the Pell City shelter in Alabama, has definitely landed in better times.  She was in really rough shape when she was found as a stray. Poor girl had been over-bred, had heartworms, and a mass on her belly that we feared was cancer. Pilot Susan D. flew her to safety, our thanks to her & to Lucy M. for fostering her. Only one day into her foster care, Sheryl and Ken W. came along to see her. They had just lost their beloved Dalmatian and were looking for one just like Dottie. They took one look and were smitten.  Even Dottie's medical problems didn't deter them and they spent whatever it took to get her well.

Now Chloe, healthy and happy, is living life large. She even recently got her photo taken with UF Gators head football coach, Will Muschamp! We knew she was a shining star from the start.
