Friends

by

Karen Monaghan

For the wag of a tail, and a bark hello

To no other friend I ever would go -

To whisper my fears

and lick away tears.

To run and to jump, and to twirl all around,

there's no better friend, that I ever found.

Hello Dal Lover!

Newsletter writing Dal Five years ago we made the decision to start a monthly newsletter so that you could get a glimpse of what rescue does. Over that time 410 new dogs entered our rescue. Most we were able to give new, loving homes, others became sanctuary dogs, and sadly some crossed the Rainbow Bridge. No matter how you account for it, that is a lot of dogs!  We hope you have a better understanding of our love and dedication to these creatures as we continue to beg, whine, and wheedle for the help necessary to continue our work. Thank you for your continued support!

"When you bring a dog into your life, you begin a journey...a journey that will bring you more love and devotion than you have ever known, yet also test your strength and courage. If you allow, the journey will teach you many things, about life, about yourself, and most of all, about love. You will come away changed forever, for one soul cannot touch another without leaving a mark." ~ Author Unknown

Another sad little spot NEEDS our help

Sad girl in Orlando
She waits for her rescue...
Over the past week we have been watching and praying someone would take this girl who has obviously recently had puppies. What became of them we do not know. What we do know is that if we don't step in she will perish. She is a friendly, 4-year-old, white and black, female, Border Collie / Dalmatian-mix, and weighs approximately 44 pounds. We do not yet know her heartworm status. Her time was up on Saturday, March 30, 2013. We have to try for her. CAN ANYONE STEP UP AND FOSTER HER???

Email Susan at daldoglady@netzero.net if you can help!

In Like a Lion, Out Like a Dalmatian?

Our lost little lambs (dogs) arrive at a record pace

Chuckie & Sinatra
CHUCK (our demodex baby) and SINATRA (recovering from surgery) have become the best of pals, seeking comfort from each other & sharing a bed.
March blew in like a lion all right... it roared in with TEN more at-risk dogs in desperate need of our help! Our new arrivals are: CHARLIE, SUTTON, ALLIE, SINATRA, PATRICK, O'LEARY, DOMINOPEPPER, SNOOPY, and CLARISSA. Poor Charlie ended up with a visit to the ER Vet for a raging UTI and Sinatra had to have surgery for a bleeding mass that has turned out to be hemangiosarcoma cancer. Lucky for her it is in early stages so may not metastasize... keep your paws crossed! Again, we give thanks that we had NINE adoptions this March with MURPHY SR., ALLIE, MARIO, CHLOE II, PATRICK, O'LEARY, ELVIS, DIAMOND, and SAM finding forever homes. So
O Leary & Patrick
O'LEARY & PATRICK were our St. Paddy's Day saves, but as luck had it they were both adopted together!
you now understand what this means? We have more dogs coming in April! Trust us, we ain't foolin', see above article!

We began 2013 with 9 dogs carrying over from 2012. So far we have brought in 26 new dogs plus 1 return. We have had 6 dogs cross the Rainbow Bridge under our care due to old age issues or illness. Our adoption count to begin 2013 is 20 dogs into loving homes. We still have the responsibility of caring for 28 Dals & dogs. ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed.

Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:

Spring is Here & Summer's Not Far Behind

Time to stock up on Heartworm prevention!!!

Heartworm cycle

The weather is working its way back into the warm range and we all know what that means.... MOSQUITOES!!! Nasty, biting creatures that can carry heartworms to our dogs. So far this year we have treated or in the process of treating FIVE rescued dogs. One of our newest arrivals, PEPPER, is a high heartworm positive and will need the full course of treatment. Sad thing is that it is such a simple thing to treat with many ivermectin-based generic drugs readily available from multiple sources. For those worried about the cost of getting blood-work so that a prescription can be filled, know that many of the low-cost clinics can do it at a nominal fee. Sure is a whole lot cheaper than heartworm treatment, which can run $600 to $1000 dollars and is an uncomfortable ordeal for your dog. Do your best friend a favor & make sure you have prevention for him/her to save them from this nasty infestation... in Florida that is year round.

Rescue-line number is discontinued

Costs have gone up on the rescue line. Since we do most of our business via email, and the phone was only monitored in the evening, we have decided to no longer continue with it. The new number to use is 727-417-6017, please leave a voice mail and your call will be returned.
