Take a Chance
|
You can't find loyalty, they say
I found it though the other day;
You can't find friendship, tried and true,
Well just the same, I found that too.
I took a chance, and on the spot
Got love and faith and an awful lot
of happiness, so all in all
The chance I took was pretty small.
I got a single trusting heart
That gave devotion from the start.
Adopt a doggy and it'll be true,
These things can be real for both of you.

Hello Dal Lover!
Despite the shortness of last month, we managed to get a lot accomplished... translate that to, "we have LOTS of dogs coming in to rescue". All can use your help. A part of that help is getting dogs to events so they may be seen for adoption and to keep our name visible as you never know when help will appear. We hope to see you out there with us and a big THANK YOU for all you do.
"A person who has never owned a dog has missed a wonderful part of life."

Event Season is in Full Bloom
Your help is needed to get dogs seen!!

A three-day event!
|
Once the weather starts to turn nice, up pop all the pet & dog events. March will be a busy month and your help is truly needed. Some events will run for 2 or 3 days, so getting volunteers to cover a shift of 3-4 hours would be wonderful.
First up is the Pet Pages Celebration of Pets this Saturday in Sarasota at the Fairgrounds. Mark H. & Lucy have offered help there. YAY!
Second will be the Bay Area Renaissance Festival which is holding their Pet Fest on the 9th & 10th; this happens to coincide with their Buccaneer Beer Fest Weekend so you could have a brew too. We are looking for fosters to bring their dogs for a few hours on either day and it would give Pat a break from the booth.
Third BIG event is the Turner Exposition Home Show at the Florida Fairgrounds. Rescues are returning to the three-day event that is on March 15-17. DRTB will have a tent set up and would like to schedule in fosters to come appear with their dogs. A suggestion would be to cover 11a-2p or 2p-6p shift. We will be set up outside, with the tent at the ready, for anyone wanting to take part. There will be no cost to our volunteers to attend and if you click the link below you can print free VIP passes that will gain you admission to the grounds and show as well (no dogs inside the building).
Please come on our and support the rescue, you never know when or where the right adopter will appear!

Shortest Month is the Busiest Month

OMG!!! Of course we HAD to help CHUCK. Here he is on his freedom ride out of the shelter.
|
Poor little CHUCK... he sat in Miami-Dade's shelter all red & raw. No caring person could ignore his plight, nor would we! With support of the Facebook community, and Team McLaren at the ready, he was pulled in no time at all. He has a raging case of demodectic mange, but this little 2-year-old Dally (mix?) is now on his road to recovery. He is not our only intake this month with medical needs. ROSEY & MURPHY II came to us from Texas and both turned out to be heartworm positive. Also arriving at DRTB were: MURPHY SR an abuse case, MARIO with Giardia, senior gals DIAMOND & KATIE, CAVAN, and CHLOE II. Thankfully, we had six adoptions this month. JIMBO (JIMBEAUX), GUERITA, BOOTS (JACK), KATIE, ROOSTER, and KHLOE all found their forever homes.
 |
GUERITA & BOOTS, our Texas siblings, finally found love & families in Florida. Way to go kids!
|
We began 2013 with 9 dogs carrying over from 2012. So far we have brought in 16 new dogs plus 1 return. We have had 6 dogs cross the Rainbow Bridge under our care due to old age issues or illness. Our adoption count to begin 2013 is 11 dogs into loving homes. We still have the responsibility of caring for 26 Dals & dogs. ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed.
Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!

Another Sanctuary Dog Leaves Us
Sid has crossed the Rainbow Bridge
 | AXEL & SID, once partners in "crime", together again. |
Originally, we had planned to have another article in this spot, but Sid's time finally came. It wasn't completely unexpected, Susan had been keeping us advised, but his care took precedence and some time was needed to grieve his passing. So instead we pay tribute to Sid. He was a special boy, part of the original sanctuary, and joins so many of our other Dals and dogs that have gone on ahead; like Egor, Cloud, Lucy, Lady, Tramp, Pebbles, and more... including his "bestie" Axel. No matter how many dogs we have or in our care, letting them go never seems to get easy. There are just times we want to scream at the unfairness of it all... that we want them to stay with us just a bit longer. Yet in the short time they are ours they fill our hearts with love and we know their spirits remain to guide and protect. So everyone, go hug and love on your dogs a bit longer today... and send a prayer out to those that have become our guardian angels.

Rescue-line number is discontinued
Costs have gone up on the rescue line. Since we do most of our business via email, and the phone was only monitored in the evening, we have decided to no longer continue with it. The new number to use is 727-417-6017, please leave a voice mail and your call will be returned.
