The Meaning of Dog Rescue
Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed, All nicely tucked up in my warm new bed. I'd like to open my baggage, lest I forget, There is so much to carry - so much to regret.
Hmm . . . Yes there it is, right on the top. Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss; And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame. As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave - I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me, But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me. Will you add to my baggage, will you help me unpack? Or will you just look at my things - And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack? To put away my baggage, to never repack? I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see, But I do come with baggage - Will you still want me?

Hello Dal Lover!
We have been gobsmacked! We are virtually speechless at the generosity of our wonderful supporters, Marilyn & Bruce H., who gave an amazing gift to us of $25K to keep us saving dogs!!! This has to be the largest single donation in DRTB history and one that give us even more flexibility when saving dogs. We are humbled by their gift and will do our best to pay it forward for the dogs.... they have our everlasting thanks!

Dal-loween Sets a New Record!
We truly have the most generous supporters
Last year we said we couldn't wait to see what the next year's Dal-loween would bring. OMG!!! Not only did we exceed last year's record fundraising, but then we were presented with that amazing donation by Marilyn & Bruce H. in the amount of $25000! I think we can safely say we will be saving a lot of spots with that. Our THANKS go out to everyone who participated this year... your support is vital and we appreciate you all.
As for the rest of the day, the weather was perfect for our event in Lake Park. Bumper brought his Carbondale firetruck and the "puppy" truck from Palm Harbor. Susan, once again emceed the event with a bit of help from Mary Ellen & Bill Logan. Missing this year were two very special people, Lee Sears & Ron Ivancsits, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge sooner than we would have liked. We know they attended in spirit, never ones to miss out on the spots. Also, we want to thank Susan K. for getting Winn-Dixie to donate the food for the picnic and then cooking it all. Thank-you to Pampered Pets Gifts, the Clearwater Spay Neuter Clinic, and Susan C. with her Lucky Toss Game for their participation in making our day special. Thanks to Brenda Knoll for taking her wonderful portraits, she even came with Santa. We are so grateful to Kathey L-W. for donating the cost of the shelter once again this year. Plus we also received other wonderful donations from Ronni and Mike & Julia for their donation in memory of Bella. Of course, we thank all the folks that spent so generously in our raffles and auctions.

Of course, what is Dal-loween without Contests & Games? There were some very wonderful & creative costumes to be viewed. Once we recover a bit more we'll get them on the website. Our costume winners are:
- First Place Costume Winner was Amy F. with Diamond as the "Crazy Cat Lady".
- Second place belonged to Dan P. with Pandora as "Cleopatra" and Webster as "Alexander the Great".
- Third place was the Jan S's Sammy & Zoe who were "Buccaneers" (the pirate kind).
Our game winners were:
- Pumpkin Dash - Dan P & his Webster.
- Popcorn Toss - Amy F. & Diamond.
- Bone Bob - Cheryl W. with Chloe.
We also want to thank EVERYONE who brought donations to the picnic. If you have any pictures from this year's event please share them with us so we can get them up on the website.
Hope to see y'all at our 10th Anniversary Dal-loween in 2013!

An Autumn Lull
But there are still plenty needing adopters
Now that the cooler weather is finally reaching us it seems our dog intake and adoption rates have cooled too. We only had 3 intakes for the month: Elvis, Joker, & Dot (Cocoa). Adoptions were not as brisk as previous months with only Xena, Joker, Cagney & Lacey going to new homes. We also discovered that Duchess, a skinny, HW+, dog we took in last month was pregnant... not knowing any puppy-raisers, Suncoast Animal League was able to step in and take her under their wing. We just got word that Duchess gave birth to 9 puppies on Monday... so far, all are doing well.
So for 2012; with 16 dogs carrying over from 2011, 2 dogs returned, an additional 69 dogs into rescue, and three crossing the rainbow bridge; we have managed 55 adoptions. So we still have the responsibility of caring for 28 Dals & dogs. ANY or ALL could use SPONSORS! Your help is very much needed. Our Dals & dogs, in various stages of readiness, seeking their forever homes are:
Bryan Emma Toby
We list all our adoptable dogs on www.Petfinder.com. PLEASE let us know if you can help these dogs with a loving home or getting them to events so that they might get adopted!

Mason needs a Foster home
He needs to be out of the shelter life!!
Some of you might know we get daily Pet Harbor bulletins that advise us of dogs in the shelters. We had gotten such a notice about a pup we watched over several for months in Collier so we put our name in him in-case he didn't get adopted. Well, it seems that the shelter remembered us because this little guy is now coming to DRTB. He is about 5 months old, has enough spots to be thought a Dal-mix, and stressing out in the shelter so as to be symptomatic for demodex (not contagious & very treatable). So now we will do our best to find him a forever home, but until then we need a FOSTER for him. Putting him into a kennel would just keep him stressed out. So if you can make a place for him and give him the good start he needs please email us at daldoglady@netzero.net or call 727-787-1760.
