Dear ,
And you will feel secure, because there is hope; you will look around and take your rest in security. Job 11:18
It's hard to believe that fifteen years have passed since the horrendous events of 9/11/2001. We all remember where we were when we learned of the attacks. Four planes were hijacked by terrorists and used as weapons against the American people. As a result, approximately 3,000 people lost their lives; a countless number of people lost their loved ones; and our nation lost its sense of security.
Many things were different in our everyday lives immediately following the attacks of 9/11/2001. Some of those things were good, even in the sorrow and pain of the events, and, as we pause to remember the fifteenth anniversary, we should again embrace those things that returned unity to our country. In the days, weeks, and months just after the attack, people were more patient, kinder, and sensitive to others. Churches were filled with those seeking answers and solace, as well as with those who felt a deep longing to return our nation to one that acknowledges and gives honor to God. Our lives were focused more on values and principles rather than attitudes of apathy, indifference or inconvenience.
Don't let this anniversary of 911 pass without pausing to reflect on the loss, and sorrow, of those families directly affected; and of our nation, so desperately in need of a return to its' Godly beginnings. Let's surround our neighbors, near and far, with prayer for healing and encouragement. And as we remember, let's also give thanks to God for the security he gives in the face of all difficulties, and pray that He will continue to guide and bless America.
But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31

Hunting Hope
|
| | In Store or On Line | |
Hope is not an accident. Hunting it takes courage. Moses had every reason to despair, but he never faltered in his pursuit of hope. The Apostle Paul's letters to the Corinthians are the perfect example of one who hunts hope through "troubles and hardships and calamities of every kind."
Navigating our dark seasons is never easy. By showing us how to hunt for hope, Nika Maples encourages us to grow into the people God has designed us to be even while we are experiencing difficulty; to allow God to use all the seasons to bring about good. And when we look to Him, we will find our way through. Every time.

Strong and Weak

Flourishing people are strong and weak. Two common temptations lure us away from abundant living withdrawing into safety or grasping for power. True flourishing, says Andy Crouch, travels down an unexpected path being both strong and weak. We see this unlikely mixture in the best leaders people who use their authority for the benefit of others, while also showing extraordinary willingness to face and embrace suffering. We see it in Jesus, who wielded tremendous power yet also exposed himself to hunger, ridicule, torture and death. Rather than being opposites, strength and weakness are actually meant to be combined in every human life and community. Only when they come together do we find the flourishing for which we were made.
With the characteristic insight, memorable stories and hopeful realism he is known for, Andy Crouch shows us how to walk this path so that the image of God can shine through us. Not just for our own good, but for the sake of others. If you want to become the kind of person whose influence leads to healthy communities, someone with the strength to be compassionate and generous, this is the book for you. Regardless of your stage or role in life, whether or not you have a position of leadership, here is a way of love and risk so that we all, even the most vulnerable, can flourish.

Lazarus occupies a surprising position in the Gospel accounts. Widely known as the man Jesus raised from the dead, his story is actually much broader and richer than that. Living as he did at Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus was uniquely placed to witness the swirl of events around Jesus.
When Jesus Wept, the first novel in The Jerusalem Chronicles series by bestselling authors Bodie and Brock Thoene, unfolds the turbulent times in Judea during Jesus' ministry, centering on the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus. With rich insights from vineyard owners and vine dressers, the Thoenes explore the metaphor of Jesus as the True Vine, harvesting the ancient secrets found in the Old Testament. Weaving the life of Lazarus, who owned a vineyard, into the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ will help you understand it is the hand of Love Divine that holds the knife, that cuts and breaks with such tender and loving touch, and that we who have born some fruit, after the pruning, can bear much more.

The pastor was doing a series of children's sermons on the symbols of the church. On one Sunday the he was speaking about vestments and asked the question, "Why do you think I wear this collar?"
One young man gave this answer, "Because it kills fleas and ticks for up to 5 months?"
