Dear ,

Perhaps you've heard the phrase, "he has a discerning spirit" and wondered what it meant. Or maybe you've never heard of the word discernment and would like to know more.

First Thessalonians 5:21-22 teaches that it is the responsibility of every Christian to be discerning: "But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil." In 1 John 4:1, the apostle John writes, "Do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world." - Discernment is required of every believer.

In its simplest definition, discernment is nothing more than the ability to decide between truth and error, right and wrong. Discernment is the process of making careful distinctions in our thinking about truth. In other words, the ability to think with discernment is synonymous with an ability to think biblically. Failure to distinguish between truth and error leaves us subject to all manner of false teaching which leads to an unbiblical mindset.

Many Christians stumble when it comes to discernment. Unequipped with a thorough knowledge of God's Word, they are unable to measure the things of life against God's instructions. Because of this they unwittingly engage in all kinds of unbiblical decision making and behavior causing much unnecessary heartache and grief. Without a solid foundation of God's truth it is difficult to stand firm against all the unbiblical thinking and attitudes that are in abundance all around.

God's Word provides us with the needed discernment about every issue of life. According to Peter, God "has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence" (2 Peter 1:3).

Discernment -- the ability to think biblically about all areas of life - to make decisions and life choices based upon the Truth of the Gospel is imperative. Without it, Christians are at risk of being "tossed here and there by waves, and carried about by every wind of doctrine" (Ephesians 4:14).

Blessings,
Steve <><

Practical Keys to Transforming the World around You.

In a world where evil dominates the headlines, we are often left wondering, "Will good really triumph over evil? Or are we hurtling toward oblivion?"

It's here, during this very hour--when political chaos seems to reign and the media persecutes anyone who disagrees with them--that God is searching for men and women who long for an infusion of boldness that possesses their souls, who will take a stand and be a voice for the Kingdom. His vision for the future is not bleak, and he is readying a heavy rain of transformation and revival.

Here is the guidance and inspiration you need to become a vessel that catches the downpour of the Spirit's rain--and helps release God's Kingdom like a flood.

We all face seasons in our lives when our circumstances seem out of our control and all the forces in this world seem against us. We become discouraged and afraid. We are tempted to give up. No matter how strong we claim our faith in God is, when life is hard, it all comes down to "resolve." Do we really believe what we say we believe? And does what we profess with our lips make it beyond intellectual assent and into our everyday actions?

Both challenging and encouraging, "Resolved" unpacks ten life-impacting resolutions that every follower of Jesus Christ must make in order to stand strong in the shifting sands of our culture. It helps readers who long to exhibit authentic lives understand and eliminate the disconnect between what we say we believe and how we live. And it offers biblical strategies for change that will allow us to stand strong--no matter what.

Good Faith

Many Christians today feel overwhelmed as they try to live faithfully in a culture that seems increasingly hostile to their beliefs. Politics, marriage, sexuality, religious freedom--with an ever-growing list of contentious issues, believers find it harder than ever to hold on to their convictions while treating their friends, neighbors, coworkers, and even family members who disagree with respect and compassion.

This isn't just a problem that affects individual Christians; if left unaddressed, the growing gap between the faithful and society's tolerance for public faith will have lasting consequences for the church in America.

Now the bestselling authors of "unChristian" turn their data-driven insights toward the thorny question of how Christians talk with people they know and love about the most toxic issues of our day. They help today's disciples understand what they believe and why, and how to keep believing it without being judgmental and defensive. Readers will discover the most significant trends that offer both obstacles and opportunities to God's people, and how not only to challenge culture but to create and renew it for the common good.

When Jesus Wept

Lazarus occupies a surprising position in the Gospel accounts. Widely known as the man Jesus raised from the dead, his story is actually much broader and richer than that. Living as he did at Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus was uniquely placed to witness the swirl of events around Jesus.

When Jesus Wept, the first novel in The Jerusalem Chronicles series by bestselling authors Bodie and Brock Thoene, unfolds the turbulent times in Judea during Jesus' ministry, centering on the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus. With rich insights from vineyard owners and vine dressers, the Thoenes explore the metaphor of Jesus as the True Vine, harvesting the ancient secrets found in the Old Testament. Weaving the life of Lazarus, who owned a vineyard, into the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ will help you understand it is the hand of Love Divine that holds the knife, that cuts and breaks with such tender and loving touch, and that we who have born some fruit, after the pruning, can bear much more.
