Dear ,
The people surrounded him and asked, "How long are you going to keep us in suspense? If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly." Jesus replied, "I have already told you, and you don't believe me. The proof is the work I do in my Father's name." John 10:24-25 (NLT)
We've all heard the old expression that "You can't see the forest for the trees". It describes someone who is so involved in the minutia, or details, of a specific issue that they fail to realize, or see, the broader picture. That's how it was with those who couldn't see Jesus for who he was. They were so concerned with the petty, that they failed to embrace the overwhelming evidence that Jesus was the Christ, our Messiah; the Son of God.
The Enduring Word on-line commentary provides some of the "I Told You" answers Jesus could have given the people on that occasion.
- I told you, I am the one who came from heaven (John 3:13, 6:38)
- I told you, whoever believes on Me has eternal life (John 3:15)
- I told you, I am the unique Son of God (John 5:19-23)
- I told you, I will judge all humanity (John 5:19-23)
- I told you, all should honor Me just as the honor God the Father (John 5:19-23)
- I told you, the Hebrew Scriptures all speak of Me (John 5:39)
- I told you, I perfectly reveal God the Father (John 7:28-29)
- I told you, I always please God and never sin (John 8:29, 8:46)
- I told you, I am uniquely sent from God (John 8:42)
- I told you, before Abraham was, I Am (John 8:58)
- I told you, I am the Son of Man, prophesied by Daniel (John 9:37)
- I told you, I will raise Myself from the dead (John 10:17-18)
- I told you, I am the Bread of Life (John 6:48)
- I told you, I am the Light of the World (John 8:12)
- I told you, I am the Door (John 10:9)
- I told you, I am the Good Shepherd (John 10:11)
Jesus still tells us plainly today who He is, all we need to do is search God's Word for the overwhelming evidence.
Blessings,
Steve <><

The Jesus Edition

What makes Jesus so intriguing, so disturbing, that we're still talking about Him more than 2,000 years later?
We all have questions about Jesus, but it's hard to get the answers we're looking for--if the answers even exist! New York Times bestselling author Eric Metaxas thinks that life's most important questions are best answered honestly, thoughtfully, and with a generous helping of levity. That's why he wrote this entertaining guide to the most influential individual to have ever lived on the face of the earth.
So if you've got questions about Jesus' life (Did He live at all?), His death (If He truly was the Son of God, why did He have to die?), His resurrection (Seriously? Did Jesus really come back after death?), and much more, then crack open this book and start your inquiry.

The God You Thought You Knew

The Christianity our culture rejects may not be true Christianity at all. So many people today believe they have to be good to be accepted by God, or that the Bible is just a list of do's and don'ts, or that God is far away and unapproachable.
Instead of providing "proofs" about God and the Bible, in this book Alex McFarland provides a reason to want to know Jesus. By sharing his own story of the loneliness and alienation of his youth, Alex taps in to universal fears of rejection and loneliness. We all seek acceptance and purpose--and there's only one solution. Learn how to be anchored in the Truth and security that comes through Christ.

365 Devotions to Embrace What Matters Most
|
| | In Store and Online | |
This daily devotional puts life into perspective, reminding you not to dwell on earthly matters of little importance, but to spend time each day connecting with God these are the moments that matter the most.
Time can get away from us. Sometimes time seems to go on forever when we feel like our work day will never end, the bus will never arrive, or standing in a seemingly endless line at the supermarket. But, the older we get, we realize that our minutes become hours, days become months, years become decades, and suddenly half of our life has passed by and we wonder where the time went, and more importantly, how we actually spent that time. Did we see the world and discover its wonders? Or did we waste it, moving from one favorite TV show to the next? Well, the clock hasn t stopped yet. Pause for a moment each day and spend a little time reflecting on the things that matter. This 365-day devotional will help realign your priorities and focus your energy on what truly matters, your relationship with God and those you love. Think deeply on what matters. And then take steps to live a life that matters. Because your life goes by in a blink, but what matters most eternity lasts forever. Read an Excerpt

Lazarus occupies a surprising position in the Gospel accounts. Widely known as the man Jesus raised from the dead, his story is actually much broader and richer than that. Living as he did at Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus was uniquely placed to witness the swirl of events around Jesus.
When Jesus Wept, the first novel in The Jerusalem Chronicles series by bestselling authors Bodie and Brock Thoene, unfolds the turbulent times in Judea during Jesus' ministry, centering on the friendship between Jesus and Lazarus. With rich insights from vineyard owners and vine dressers, the Thoenes explore the metaphor of Jesus as the True Vine, harvesting the ancient secrets found in the Old Testament. Weaving the life of Lazarus, who owned a vineyard, into the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ will help you understand it is the hand of Love Divine that holds the knife, that cuts and breaks with such tender and loving touch, and that we who have born some fruit, after the pruning, can bear much more.
Best-selling author and ministry leader Thom S. Rainer drew an exceptional response when he posted a 500-word declaration about church membership to his daily blog. "I Am a Church Member" started a conversation about the attitudes and responsibilities of church members -- rather than the functional and theological issues -- that previous new member primers all but ignored. Thoughtfully expanded to book form, I Am a Church Member begins to remedy the outbreak of inactive or barely committed church members, addressing without apology what is expected of those who join a body of believers. When a person's attitude is consistently biblical and healthy, matters of giving, serving, and so forth will fall into place more naturally. Six intentional chapters with study questions guide this rising discussion: 1. I Will Be a Unifying Church Member 2. I Will Not Let the Church Be About My Preferences and Desires 3. I Will Pray for My Church Leaders 4. I Will Lead My Family to Be Healthy Church Members 5. I Will Be a Functioning Member 6. I Will Treasure Church Membership as a Gift
No one wants to see a church die. And yet, far too many churches are dying. For more than twenty-five years, Dr. Thom Rainer has helped churches grow, reverse the trends of decline, and has autopsied those that have died. From this experience, he has discovered twelve consistent themes among those churches that have died. Yet, it's not gloom and doom because from those twelve themes, lessons on how to keep your church alive have emerged. Whether your church is vibrant or dying, whether you are a pastor or a church member, "Autopsy of a Deceased Church" will walk you through the radical paths necessary to keep your church alive to the glory of God and advancement of Christ's Kingdom

Some Parting Fun...

A group of young men were sitting around the coffee shop complaining about how hard it was to get by in this day and age.
Bob, an old timer, was listening to them and finally spoke.
"You kids don't know what hard times are. Why, when I was your age we were so poor we couldn't afford electricity. Why, we even had to watch television by candle light."
