Dear ,

"O Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are but a small Judean village, yet you will be the birthplace of my King who is alive from everlasting ages past!" Micah 5:2 (TLB)

Who would have thought that the king of the universe, the savior of the world, would come as a baby to a little sheep herding village located in the Judean countryside? Such an unexpected place for such an extraordinary event! But isn't that just how God works, always showing up in the most unexpected places and unanticipated ways.

God doesn't limit himself to our expectations of when to encounter Him. He doesn't confine his presence to Sunday services or organized church events, but makes His love evident in all kinds of ways and places.

I was sitting in the I-75 parking lot (more commonly known as Interstate 75) the other evening on my way home from work and felt His presence surround me in a very real way.   Instead of fuming about the traffic, I had the opportunity to really look at the sun piercing through the clouds forming a heavenly cathedral that would have been missed if traffic was moving. How beautiful to see God's majestic masterpiece reminding me of His love and care.

Perhaps you've been stressed this past week as you rush here and there in preparation for Christmas, but even in the hustle and bustle God is there. Think about it; have you felt His presence? Perhaps in a kind word from a friend or neighbor or maybe a loving hug from a child or grandchild? Have you seen His majesty displayed in spite of the chaos as He shows up in the midst of your busyness?

Take some time to pause and reflect on the unexpected places and ways that you may be experiencing His love this Christmas season and then share His blessings with all you meet.

Blessings,
Steve <><

Hearing God

"God spoke to me.""The Spirit spoke to my heart.""God revealed the idea to me."Being close to God means communicating with him--telling him what is on our hearts in prayer and hearing and understanding what he is saying to us. It is this second half of our conversation with God that is so important but that can also be so difficult.

How do we hear his voice? How can we be sure that what we think we hear is not our own subconscious? What role does the Bible play? What if what God says to us is not clear? The key, says best-selling author Dallas Willard, is to focus not so much on individual actions and decisions as on building our personal relationship with our Creator. In this updated and expanded edition of Willard's beloved book, originally published as In Search of Guidance, you'll gain rich spiritual insight into how we can hear God's voice clearly and develop an intimate partnership with him in the work of his kingdom.

Including new material from Dallas Willard's teaching at the Renovar? Institute and reformatted to be even easier to read, this classic continues to endure as one of today's best resources for learning to listen closely to God.

Rekindle the true meaning of Christmas with the help of six gifted Christian communicators.

Every year, the story of Christmas is told and retold, but sometimes the very familiarity of holiday traditions causes us to overlook the vital expressions of this meaningful season. "On This Holy Night"" "breathes new life into several aspects of the Christmas story through the voices of six beloved Christian communicators. Each author explores the meaning of Christmas in different facets of the holiday:
  • Max Lucado--a look into Joseph's story, a man caught between what God says and what makes sense
  • Rick Warren--the real gift of Christmas is that God sent His own Son to connect with the human race
  • David Jeremiah--why the name of Jesus is so important and perfect
  • John Maxwell--how to journey like the wise men to unexpected places
  • Jack Hayford--a look into Mary's story, a woman who embraced the seemingly impossible with God at her side
  • Bill Hybels--rediscovering meaning in the nativity scene
Sure to connect readers back to the heart of the holiday, this beautiful four-color hard back gift book will be treasured for years to come.

Advent Begins November 29th
Advent Wreath
Advent Wreath - Many in Stock / On Line
The Advent wreath is a circular garland of evergreen branches representing eternity. On that wreath, five candles are typically arranged. During the season of Advent one candle on the wreath is lit each Sunday as a part of the Advent services. Each candle represents an aspect of the spiritual preparation for the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Advent Wreath Candles

Set on the branches of the wreath are four candles: three purple candles and one pink candle. In the center of the wreath sits a white candle. As a whole, these candles represent the coming of the light of Christ into the world.

On the first Sunday of Advent, the first purple candle is lit. This candle is typically called the "Prophecy Candle" in remembrance of the prophets, primarily Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. This candle represents hope or expectation in anticipation of the coming Messiah.

Each week on Sunday, an additional candle is lit. On the second Sunday of Advent, the second purple candle is lit. This candle typically represents love. Some traditions call this the "Bethlehem Candle," symbolizing Christ's manger.

On the third Sunday of Advent the pink, or rose-colored candle is lit. This pink candle is customarily called the "Shepherds Candle" and it represents joy.

The fourth and last purple candle, oftentimes called the "Angels Candle," represents peace and is lit on the fourth Sunday of Advent.

On Christmas Eve, the white center candle is traditionally lit. This candle is called the "Christ Candle" and represents the life of Christ that has come into the world. The color white represents purity. Christ is the sinless, spotless, pure Savior. Also, those who receive Christ as Savior are washed of their sins and made whiter than snow.

Some Parting Fun...
An atheist complained to a Christian friend, "You Christians have your special holidays, such as Christmas and Easter but we atheists have no recognized national holidays. It's unfair discrimination!"

His friend replied, "Why don't you celebrate April 1st?"
