Dear ,

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease." Genesis 8:22 (ESV)

Can you believe that yesterday was the first day of autumn?   Before we know it the leaves will be splashed with brilliant color, frost will be greeting the morning, and the daylight hours we've enjoyed for a time will continue to fade away.

The changing seasons remind us of the changes we experience in the course of life.   Spring represents birth and new life, summer represents growth to maturity, autumn represents the time in our life when we reflect and apply ourselves more intentionally, and winter represents the lifelong culmination of our efforts, and a season of rest..

Our spiritual lives follow the same pattern.   In the Spring we experience new birth; a realization that God loved us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be our savior. As we accept Christ and begin our journey everything is new and exciting, we are a new creation in Him and are excited about the journey.

In the summer of our spiritual journey we reach a point where we are stable and comfortable in our walk with Christ. Even so, some hot days or storms may cross our paths challenging us in our faith. It is through these trying times that our faith is strengthened as we learn to trust God and lean not on our own understanding.   Without the storms of summer we would cease to grow and mature in faith.

The autumn of our spiritual life brings confidence in our ability to depend wholly upon God. We learn to trust that no matter what comes our way, God is there providing for our need and encouraging us along the journey. In the autumn of our spiritual life we are strong in the faith, able to help our fellow travelers, whether they are in the spring, summer, fall or winter of their walk. We are mature in Christ and, when we allow Him to work through us, we are truly reflections of His love to everyone He puts in our path.

Our spiritual lives have winters as well, a time for retreat and renewing where our souls can be refreshed and renewed. It is during the dormant time of winter that we work on developing a renewed love and energy for service; where we come to a realization that there's more that we don't know than we do know. It is during these times that our passion for Christ, and our dedication to service, is rekindled and we set out on a new spring season excited and full of energy once again.

What season do you find yourself in? Are you beginning your walk, growing and maturing while facing some storms, leading others to a discipleship experience, or allowing God to rekindle your spirit? Whatever the time, know that it's okay and trust God to do finish the work He began in you .

Blessings,
Steve <><

Over the last thirty years, many influential church leaders and church planters in America have adopted various models for reaching unchurched people. An 'attractional' model will seek to attract people to a local church. Younger leaders may advocate a more 'missional' approach, in which believers live and work among unchurched people and intentionally seek to serve like Christ.
While each of these approaches have merit, something is still missing, something even more fundamental to the mission of the church: discipleship. Making disciples---helping people to trust and follow Jesus---is the church's God-given mandate. Devoted disciples attract people outside the church because of the change others see in their Christ-like lives. And discipleship empowers Christians to be more like Christ as they intentionally develop relationship with non-believers.
DiscipleShift walks you through five key 'shifts' that churches must make to refocus on the biblical mission of discipleship. These intentional changes will attract the world and empower your church members to be salt and light in their communities.

Hearing God
Hearing God
In Store or On Line
"God spoke to me.""The Spirit spoke to my heart.""God revealed the idea to me."Being close to God means communicating with him--telling him what is on our hearts in prayer and hearing and understanding what he is saying to us. It is this second half of our conversation with God that is so important but that can also be so difficult.

How do we hear his voice? How can we be sure that what we think we hear is not our own subconscious? What role does the Bible play? What if what God says to us is not clear?

The key, says best-selling author Dallas Willard, is to focus not so much on individual actions and decisions as on building our personal relationship with our Creator. In this updated and expanded edition of Willard's beloved book, originally published as In Search of Guidance, you'll gain rich spiritual insight into how we can hear God's voice clearly and develop an intimate partnership with him in the work of his kingdom. Including new material from Dallas Willard's teaching at the Renovar Institute and reformatted to be even easier to read, this classic continues to endure as one of today's best resources for learning to listen closely to God.

You Can't Text a Tough Conversation

As our use of technology has increased, our communication skills have decreased. We text when we should talk. We tweet firings and breakups. Technology creates the illusion of being in touch, but we lose the deeper meaning conveyed by body language, facial expression, and tone of voice. What we need are real, face-to-face conversations. Have we lost that art?

Whether it's with a spouse, a friend, a boss, a co-worker, or children, tough conversations can create high anxiety. Communication expert Mike Bechtle offers practical help. He shows readers how to build strong relationships and teaches tried-and-true methods to navigate the muddy waters of tough conversations. Readers learn to be better listeners, give and receive genuine feedback, saturate their relationships with kindness, and much more. With the right skills and tools, anyone can feel more confident handling a tough conversation.

    Some Parting Fun...
Autumn is a season for big decisions - like whether or not it's too late to start spring cleaning!

I got tired of looking at all those leaves in my yard, so I got up off the couch and went into action. I closed the curtains.
