There are times in each of our lives when things are difficult. The passing of a cherished loved one, a debilitating accident, the loss of income, a disagreement with a friend that damages a long time relationship. When these things happen it can be hard to maintain a positive attitude; our spirit can become distressed and even depressed. If not vigilant we can easily slip into the bonds of self-pity and become detached from those around us. We can also become distant from God, the One we should be calling upon for help and comfort.
God promises that if we draw near to Him, He will draw near to us. James 4:8
Have you experienced extreme sorrow or a burden that crushes your spirit? There is the promise of future joy amid your tears as you lean upon our loving Lord. Even though it may be difficult at first, open the Bible to Psalms and begin reading, asking God to reveal himself to you and to come to you in your time of sorrow. Pray daily for his healing touch and comforting peace as you place your burden at his feet. Lift your voice and heart in praise and thanksgiving, even though it may be through tears, your spirit will lift as you worship. Reach out to someone else who is going through a hard time, giving love and comfort to another most often brings comfort to you as you serve. Share your burden with a trusted Christian friend who can encourage you while praying for you.
