Dear ,
On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation. Genesis 2:2-3 (NLT)
Isn't summertime supposed to be a time for relaxing? Then why does it seem that everything is non-stop, go, go, go? There's grass to mow, kids to shuttle, vacations to pack and unpack, and countless activities that keep us busy, busy, busy!
It is important in all of that busyness to remember that God gave us an example, and a commandment, concerning taking a break from work. All work with no rest depletes our energy and makes us ineffective in the work we think we need to do 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In just a short amount of time, without taking time to rest and refresh, we can find ourselves burned out and weary. When we fail to take time to relax we may also find ourselves becoming irritable, cynical, and unpleasant to be around. Our Christian witness suffers as well if we don't take the time to unwind, meditate and commune with God.
Ask yourself these questions and if you find that you are not taking time to truly unwind and care for your spirit do something about it before the summer is over and you've missed an opportunity for some much needed refreshment.
-
When was the last time you truly rested from your work, whether at the office, school, home, or even at church?
-
What has the Lord revealed to you about your busyness? In what ways do you need to learn to relax?
-
Make time for some relaxation this week! Think of one thing you can do to enjoy God's creation-then do it! Perhaps you can turn your thoughts into worship by writing a poem or composing a song about the experience.
for anyone who enters God's rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Hebrews 4:10 (NLT)
Blessings,
Steve <><

The Best Yes
|
Learn to find and play the role God wants most for you to play, not the ones you feel pressured into playing for the sake of others or even our sense of accomplishment and worth.
Most of us spend a lot of our lives figuring out when to say yes and when to say no. How to manage our time, reduce stress, do our best for our families, find a little space for "me." But we don't find space for our souls until we learn to step past the yes and no of daily decisions and seek a third option: the best yes.
The best yes is the choice that shapes all our other choices. (And our choices determine the direction of our lives.) It's what allows us to play our necessary parts in God's plan, to spend our energy and focus our passion on the assignments that really are ours. It allows us to be there for the moments we shouldn't miss, pursue the calling our souls pulse to fulfill, give the love we were born to offer.
How do we learn to say that best yes? It requires honesty. Imagination. Attention. Trust. Humility. Practice--lots of practice. And wisdom. The best yes is really all about wisdom--learning to make truly wise decisons. And that's the heart of this book.
"I want us to become powerfully effective decision makers," writes Lysa Terkeurst. "Because then we will live powerfully effective lives. And spend our souls doing powerfully effective work to the glory of God." With her signature mix of transparency, Scripture-laced insight, and "been there" humor, she suggests usable strategies for choosing wisely and encourages us all to shout and whisper our own best yes to life, day by decision-making day.

Some Parting Fun...
|
A telephone sales person makes a call to an unknown prospect and a very small, very soft, very quiet, and obviously young person answers the phone.
Sales person: Hello, may I speak to the man of the house please? Youngster: (whispering) No, he's busy.
Sales person: Well then, can I please speak to your mother? Youngster: (in a whisper) She's busy too.
Sales person: I see, how about your brother? Can I speak to him? Youngster: (whispering) No. He's busy too.
Sales person: (losing patience) Is your sister there? Can I talk to her? Youngster: (in a whisper) She's busy too.
Sales person: ( by now quite exasperated) What are all these people doing that keeps them so busy?!!!
Youngster: (still whispering) Looking for me.
