Dear ,

This Sunday, March 8, remember to move your clocks ahead one hour as Daylight Savings Time begins at 2:30AM.

Did you realize that there are only 168 hours in a week?   If you consider an average of 8 hours of sleep each night (except this Saturday), that leaves us with only 112 hours each week, or 16 hours per day, to work, play, worship, witness, commute, etc., Only 112 waking hours each week to use however we choose.

So, the question is; How do we choose to use our time?   Do we use it wisely or do we squander it away? The Bible makes it very clear that we are to be intentional in the way that we use our limited time. Here are several verses concerning time management:

"You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before you. Each man's life is but a breath" (Psalm 39:4-5).

Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. (James 4:14)

"Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom" (Psalm 90:12).

"Be very careful, then, how you live - not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil" (Ephesians 5:15-16).

As we lose the hour this weekend let's make it a point to not waste the time we have. Spend each hour, each and every day, to make a difference in the Kingdom of God.   Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. (Colossians 3:17) In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:17)

Blessings,

The ten patterns are:

  1. Listen to a twelve-year-old: Be about your father's business.
  2. Redeem the time: Wasted hours can never be regained.
  3. Clear the decks: God isn't disorganized; why should we be?
  4. Maximize the morning: Schedule a standing appointment with God.
  5. Pull off at rest stops: Routinely replenish your inner resources.
  6. Operate on yourself: Diagnose and treat yourself spiritually.
  7. Live "As If" Act by faith even when your emotions aren't ready.
  8. Bathe in the Dead Sea: Experience the buoyancy of biblical joy.
  9. Practice the power of plodding: Persistently work in small increments.
  10. Remember there are two of you: It's Christ in you that's achieving significance.

Based on actual Scriptures, this simple, yet hope-filled plan for mastering life before it's too late will put you on the path toward a lifetime of success.

Prayer

In Store Special

$5.00

Polls reveal that 90 percent of people pray. Yet prayer, which should be the most nourishing and uplifting time of the believer's day, can also be frustrating, confusing, and fraught with mystery.

Writing as a fellow pilgrim, Yancey probes such questions as:

  • Is God listening?
  • Why should God care about me?
  • If God knows everything, what's the point of prayer?
  • Why do answers to prayer seem so inconsistent?
  • Why does God sometimes seem close and sometimes seem far away?
  • How can I make prayer more satisfying?

Yancey tackles the tough questions and in the process comes up with a fresh new approach to this timeless topic.

"I have learned to pray as a privilege, not a duty," he says, and he invites you to join him on this all-important journey.

I Am a Church Member

Best-selling author and ministry leader Thom S. Rainer drew an exceptional response when he posted a 500-word declaration about church membership to his daily blog. "I Am a Church Member" started a conversation about the attitudes and responsibilities of church members -- rather than the functional and theological issues -- that previous new member primers all but ignored.

Thoughtfully expanded to book form, I Am a Church Member begins to remedy the outbreak of inactive or barely committed church members, addressing without apology what is expected of those who join a body of believers. When a person's attitude is consistently biblical and healthy, matters of giving, serving, and so forth will fall into place more naturally.

Six intentional chapters with study questions guide this rising discussion:

  • I Will Be a Unifying Church Member
  • I Will Not Let the Church Be About My Preferences and Desires
  • I Will Pray for My Church Leaders
  • I Will Lead My Family to Be Healthy Church Members
  • I Will Be a Functioning Member
  • I Will Treasure Church Membership as a Gift

Some Parting Fun...

It was a wonderfully deep snow and the little boy stood at the top of a hill readying his sled for a slide downhill.

Another boy came up to him and asked, "Can I share your sled?"

"Sure," the little boy said. "You take it uphill and I'll take it down!"
