Dear ,

You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. Matthew 5:13 (NIV)

I can still remember my dad telling me that I'd best watch what I do when out and about in our small community. He made it very clear that my words and deeds would reflect upon our family, and that my behavior, good or bad, would influence the way our friends and neighbors thought of us. And, although when I became a father myself we lived in a larger community, I still remember saying the same thing to my children. It was, and is, important that people see my family as one having integrity, honesty, cleanliness and just plain good manners.

So, how do you think our heavenly father feels about our actions in the world today? As we interact with others in our community are we kind and thoughtful? Do we have manners that show His love through our actions? As we communicate using Facebook or Twitter do the things we post, and the tweets we send, bring honor to our Christian family? Do we think about what we are saying, or the pictures we are tacking up, before doing so making sure the message, image or character we are presenting adhere to the values we profess we hold?

Over the past couple of weeks I've spoken with several people concerning the use of Facebook and Twitter.   While most agree they are very useful tools for getting a message out, and perhaps even cultivating deeper relationships, many have expressed concern that the "filter" we usually apply when presenting ourselves in person, seems to unfortunately disappear when using technology.   A couple of pastor friends even commented that they have appreciated the tools for keeping up with the needs of their parishioners, but are saddened and dismayed with some of the junk they see being put up by those same parishioners.

Just like most anything we use, these communication tools can be used for good or evil. We need to think about the words we say and the actions we take whether in person, or doing so over a computer with an Internet connection. Many people are watching and making an evaluation of our Father, and our Christian family, based upon what we say and do.

Take a moment before hitting the "Enter" key and think about it; does it bring honor to God?, does it build up or tear down?, would I say this to another person standing beside me?, would I say or post this if Jesus were watching? (He Is) Do I represent my family well or do I sadden my Father with the things I say and do?

Blessings,

Steve <><

How to Be Rich
How to Be Rich
In Store or On Line

How to Be Rich by pastor Andy Stanley explores 1 Timothy 6:18. Andy biblically redefines what wealth is, how to use it, and helps you practice being rich so you will be good at it if you should ever be so fortunate.

The early Christians took this command seriously. Generosity was the hallmark of the early church. They did for those who could not do or would not do anything in return. That was new. That got people's attention. Is that how people in our communities would describe us? How to Be Rich will force conversation and reflection around the topic of what to do with what we have.

Jesus could not have been any clearer. It's not what you have that matters. It's what you do with what you have that will count for you or against you in the kingdom of heaven. Andy Stanley will encourage you to look at richness differently, which might just lead our families, communities, and world to look at Christians differently.

Pastor Rob Morgan provides ten biblical patterns for pleasantly productive people, answering the question: How do I gain mastery of my life before it's too late?" "

A lifelong student of the Bible, Rob Morgan has spent forty years learning about maximizing each day and becoming purposeful and productive. Now he has found a simple plan that works--featuring ten biblical principles that transcend human wisdom. These patterns can be implemented today whether you're a student or an octagenarian, a novice or an executive, and help you develop a perpetually effective life. The ten patterns are:

1. Listen to a twelve-year-old: Be about your father's business.
2. Redeem the time: Wasted hours can never be regained.
3. Clear the decks: God isn't disorganized; why should we be?
4. Maximize the morning: Schedule a standing appointment with God.
5. Pull off at rest stops: Routinely replenish your inner resources.
6. Operate on yourself: Diagnose and treat yourself spiritually.
7. Live "As If" Act by faith even when your emotions aren't ready.
8. Bathe in the Dead Sea: Experience the buoyancy of biblical joy.
9. Practice the power of plodding: Persistently work in small increments.
10. Remember there are two of you: It's Christ in you that's achieving significance.

Based on actual Scriptures, this simple, yet hope-filled plan for mastering life before it's too late will put you on the path toward a lifetime of success.

As It Is In Heaven
As It Is In Heaven

Our lives here are so often cluttered with the "cares of this world" that we fail to consider heavenly priorities and how they should be reflected in our earthly ones.

At the beginning of Jesus' most famous prayer, He teaches us to pray that God's will "be done on earth as it is in heaven." What heaven is up to is critical for us to understand if we're going to live biblically. Pastor Greg Laurie explains that heaven is anything but a long, boring church service. People in heaven know about the time and place of ongoing events on earth. They are rational and recall everything from their earthly days, but most importantly for us, they have a unique perspective from which we can learn a great deal.

In this rich and relevant study, Greg sheds scriptural light on the sensational books and stories about people going to heaven and coming back, answers the nagging questions we are all dying to ask, and guides us to focus--right now--on what really matters.
