Dear ,

Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 (ESV)

I recently had a conversation with my niece regarding prayer. Her daughter, my 11 year old great niece, has recently struggled with the lack of positive answers to her prayers and was discouraged; thinking God wasn't listening.

As we talked I was reminded that although it may not be what we want to hear, God is not in the business of simply granting our wishes. He is sovereign and knows far more than we about every situation we may find ourselves in. Regardless of how we believe things should be, God knows how it needs to be and will bring everything to work for His glory.

Yes, it's okay to pray for what we want, but we must realize that our prayers must be according to God's will. We need to put our desires on the altar submitting ourselves to His perfect plan, wherever that may lead. Simpler to say than to do, as the path may not be one we would choose for ourselves, but if we give our desires to Him, and allow ourselves to rely upon His grace and guidance, we'll find that our prayers will become aligned with His, and the desires of our heart will be granted.

O God, help me today to let my wishes be transformed into those that seek your perfect plan for my life and for those whom I pray. Let me pray "Your will be done" and be filled with your absolute peace knowing You, and You alone, are above all.

"After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen." Matthew 6:9-13 (KJV)

Blessings,

When You Don't Know What to Pray
When You Don't Know What to Pray
In Store or On Line

It's easy to pray for others' needs. If God takes a long time in answering--or answers with a no--it's easier to take.

Far more difficult is focusing on your own needs, when sometimes you don't get the answers you want. What do you pray when life gets hard or even unbearable? When you lose a spouse or a child? When your health deteriorates? When your spiritual life seems barren?

Linda Evans Shepherd knows what it's like to pray in the most dire of circumstances. She shows readers the how, what, and when of praying for themselves. As she takes readers through her own prayer journey and the stories of others, they will be encouraged and equipped to pray for themselves in any circumstance. They'll also find that whether or not God changes their circumstances, he will use prayer to change them.

Praying the Scriptures
Praying the Scriptures

What do you do when prayer feels futile, an endless rehashing of your problems? If one of the most practical reasons we pray is to obtain strength from God, then we need to understand how that happens.

Prayer is about more than making requests. In addition to our agony and questioning, Scripture teaches us to also offer up our surrender. We can voice not only loneliness, resentment, and frustration but also peace, hope, and worship. When we let Scripture teach us a breadth of prayers, we begin to be filled with God's fresh life.

Interweaving his own story of inner torment and physical illness, Kevin Johnson takes you through nine key Scripture passages that will lead you to find peace. Each passage is broken down into smaller portions, paired with short phrases to prompt you to pray Scripture back to God--and learn how to talk to him in your pain.
Some Parting Fun...

Timmy had been misbehaving and was sent to his room.

After a while he emerged and informed his mother that he had thought it over and then said a prayer.

"Fine", said the pleased mother. "If you ask God to help you not misbehave, He will help you."

"Oh, I didn't ask Him to help me not misbehave," said Timmy. "I asked Him to help you put up with me."
