Do you have your home ready for Christmas? Have the floors been swept, the shelves dusted, the windows cleaned? Are the decorations all in place, the gifts purchased and the meals planned? Have the greeting cards been sent, the family and friends invited, the activities scheduled? It's a big job getting ready for a big celebration. There are many details requiring attention, and even more work to complete, to make the event one to remember.
But, how about your heart? Is it just as ready for Christmas?
Isn't it ironic that our preparation for Christmas usually involves all of the hustle and bustle of preparing the physical, but lacks the true preparation required to receive the Peace we really need, and desire. We are more careful to hang the stockings by the chimney with care than we are to examine ourselves to make sure that there is nothing within our spirit that would prevent Christmas, or the coming of Christ into our heart.
So, how do we make preparations to receive this wonderful Christmas gift? We do so by being quiet, by listening, by humbling ourselves in repentance as we examine our relationships, our motives, our thoughts, our actions. We seek His cleansing as we draw close to Him, searching, waiting, expecting, longing for, anticipating the celebration of His arrival.
Take time this week to prepare your heart for Christmas. Step away from all the glitzy trappings of the holiday and get alone with God. Read Scripture, pray, reflect, ask Him to cleanse you of anything that interferes with your relationship, and to bless you with His Peace, His Comfort, His Wisdom and His Love. Ask Him to make your heart ready for Christmas.
Come, thou long expected Jesus
Born to set thy people free
From our fears and sins release us
Let us find our rest in Thee

The nativity play was going as planned and Joseph and Mary were going from house to house knocking on the doors and asking it there was any room for them.
As they continued to get "no room" answers a little voice called from the back "YOU SHOULD HAVE BOOKED!" bringing the house down.
