Dear ,
It's just the first week in December, but perhaps you are already feeling the stress and frustration of having too much to do in preparation for Christmas. The parties, the decorations, the gifts to buy, the food to prepare, and many other tasks may all contribute to take our hearts away from where our focus should be, on preparing to celebrate God's gift of Christ.
Try these ideas to keep your Christmas happy and holy:
-
Make prayerful choices on where to spend your time and energy
It's easy to get so busy that you don't realize that you've forgotten the real reason for all of the effort. Busy is an acronym for "Being Under Satan's Yoke", and he will do all within his power to keep you that way. Step back and ask yourself if the event, or time spent on an activity, will bring honor to Christ and real joy to your spirit, or, will it simply cause more stress. Be prepared to pass on those things that are not conducive to a reverent, expectant spirit. "Walk in wisdom...redeeming the time" (Colossians 4:5).
-
Real joy is realized in giving Find someone this year who could use a kind word, a little help, some encouragement. Perhaps a single mom, a lonely widower, or an underprivileged young person. Helping to make someone else's Christmas happy will help you discover the joy of Christmas. 'Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for Me" (Matthew 25:40).
-
Set aside time to study and reflect
Take some time each day to examine your heart, to wait expectantly for the coming of Christ. Find a daily Advent devotional; read the daily passage then sit quietly in prayer asking God to open your heart and mind to the Grace He freely gave in Christ. "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10).
-
Pray Scripture to remind yourself of the peace God gives
Here are some Bible verses to commit to memory and repeat whenever you begin to feel tense. * "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you" (John 14:27). * "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7). * "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28).
This Christmas, say "yes" to what's really important to you and a polite "no" to everything else. Look for ways to show kindness to people who need it. Remind yourself and your loved ones daily of the real reason why we celebrate: Christ has come to live among us.
Blessings, Steve <><

 | Advent Wreath - Many in Stock / On Line |
The Advent wreath is a circular garland of evergreen branches representing eternity. On that wreath, five candles are typically arranged. During the season of Advent one candle on the wreath is lit each Sunday as a part of the Advent services. Each candle represents an aspect of the spiritual preparation for the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ.
Advent Wreath Candles
Set on the branches of the wreath are four candles: three purple candles and one pink candle. In the center of the wreath sits a white candle. As a whole, these candles represent the coming of the light of Christ into the world.
On the first Sunday of Advent, the first purple candle is lit. This candle is typically called the "Prophecy Candle" in remembrance of the prophets, primarily Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. This candle represents hope or expectation in anticipation of the coming Messiah.
Each week on Sunday, an additional candle is lit. On the second Sunday of Advent, the second purple candle is lit. This candle typically represents love. Some traditions call this the "Bethlehem Candle," symbolizing Christ's manger.
On the third Sunday of Advent the pink, or rose-colored candle is lit. This pink candle is customarily called the "Shepherds Candle" and it represents joy.
The fourth and last purple candle, oftentimes called the "Angels Candle," represents peace and is lit on the fourth Sunday of Advent.
On Christmas Eve, the white center candle is traditionally lit. This candle is called the "Christ Candle" and represents the life of Christ that has come into the world. The color white represents purity. Christ is the sinless, spotless, pure Savior. Also, those who receive Christ as Savior are washed of their sins and made whiter than snow.

BOOK OF THE MONTH
|
 | In Store Price - $5.00 |
Best-selling author and ministry leader Thom S. Rainer drew an exceptional response when he posted a 500-word declaration about church membership to his daily blog. "I Am a Church Member" started a conversation about the attitudes and responsibilities of church members -- rather than the functional and theological issues -- that previous new member primers all but ignored.
Thoughtfully expanded to book form, I Am a Church Member begins to remedy the outbreak of inactive or barely committed church members, addressing without apology what is expected of those who join a body of believers. When a person's attitude is consistently biblical and healthy, matters of giving, serving, and so forth will fall into place more naturally.
Six intentional chapters with study questions guide this rising discussion: 1. I Will Be a Unifying Church Member 2. I Will Not Let the Church Be About My Preferences and Desires 3. I Will Pray for My Church Leaders 4. I Will Lead My Family to Be Healthy Church Members 5. I Will Be a Functioning Member 6. I Will Treasure Church Membership as a Gift

Some Parting Fun...
|
One day, the phone rang, and a little boy answered.
"May I speak to your parents?"
"They're busy."
"Oh. Is anybody else there?"
"The police."
"Can I speak to them?"
"They're busy."
"Oh. Is anybody else there?"
"The firemen."
"Can I speak to them?"
"They're busy."
"So let me get this straight -- your parents, the police, and the firemen are there, but they're all busy? What are they doing?"
"Looking for me."
