Dear ,

With Thanksgiving right around the corner we naturally turn our thoughts toward what it means to be thankful. Giving thanks is an outward expression of our inward sense of gratitude for kindness received, and is often accompanied by our desire to reciprocate in a like manner.   Gratitude is born from a humble spirit and grows as we reflect upon that which we are grateful for.

I found these five suggestions for growing a grateful spirit. Why not begin today?

5 ways to deepen your sense of gratitude every day...

  1. Write in a Thanksgiving Journal
    • Purchase a small notebook and keep it handy. Take a few moments each day to jot down things that you are grateful for, or, one or two positive experiences for which you are thankful.
  2. Express your gratitude in person.
    • When someone goes above and beyond, be sure to verbalize your appreciation. Go to the person and personally thank them. Treat them to lunch or a cup of coffee to show your appreciation.
  3. Show respect for those around you.
    • Treat others with the same level of courtesy that you expect to receive. Smile, show kindness, have patience, and most of all.. Listen.
  4. Don't Complain
    • When things don't go your way it is tempting to complain about it. Rather than complaining, give thanks for the day that the Lord has made. Rejoice and be glad.
  5. Volunteer in the community
    • There's a well-known secret among long time volunteers: an act of kindness brings joy to you as well as to those you serve.

Bless the Lord, O my soul: And all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all his benefits: Psalm 103:1-2 (KJV)

Blessings,

Advent Begins November 30th
Advent Wreath
Advent Wreath - Many in Stock / On Line

The Advent wreath is a circular garland of evergreen branches representing eternity. On that wreath, five candles are typically arranged. During the season of Advent one candle on the wreath is lit each Sunday as a part of the Advent services. Each candle represents an aspect of the spiritual preparation for the coming of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

Advent Wreath Candles

Set on the branches of the wreath are four candles: three purple candles and one pink candle. In the center of the wreath sits a white candle. As a whole, these candles represent the coming of the light of Christ into the world.

On the first Sunday of Advent, the first purple candle is lit. This candle is typically called the "Prophecy Candle" in remembrance of the prophets, primarily Isaiah, who foretold the birth of Christ. This candle represents hope or expectation in anticipation of the coming Messiah.

Each week on Sunday, an additional candle is lit. On the second Sunday of Advent, the second purple candle is lit. This candle typically represents love. Some traditions call this the "Bethlehem Candle," symbolizing Christ's manger.

On the third Sunday of Advent the pink, or rose-colored candle is lit. This pink candle is customarily called the "Shepherds Candle" and it represents joy.

The fourth and last purple candle, oftentimes called the "Angels Candle," represents peace and is lit on the fourth Sunday of Advent.

On Christmas Eve, the white center candle is traditionally lit. This candle is called the "Christ Candle" and represents the life of Christ that has come into the world. The color white represents purity. Christ is the sinless, spotless, pure Savior. Also, those who receive Christ as Savior are washed of their sins and made whiter than snow.

BOOKS OF THE MONTH
All In
In Store Price - $5.00

The Gospel costs nothing. You can't earn it or buy it. It can only be received as a free gift compliments of God's grace. It doesn't cost anything, but it demands everything. It demands that we go "all in," a term that simply means placing all that you have into God's hands. Pushing it all in. And that's where we get stuck---spiritual no man's land. We're afraid that if we go all in that we might miss out on what this life has to offer. It's not true.

The only thing you'll miss out on is everything God has to offer. And the good news is this: if you don't hold out

on God, God won't hold out on you.

Not a Fan
In Store Special! - $5.00

Are you a follower of Jesus?

Don't answer too quickly. In fact, you may want to read this book before you answer at all. Consider it a "Define the Relationship" conversation to determine exactly where you stand.

You may indeed be a passionate, fully devoted follower of Jesus or you may be just a fan who admires Jesus but isn't ready to let him cramp your style. Then again, maybe you're not into Jesus, period. In any case, don't take the question---Are you a follower of Jesus?---lightly.

Some people don't know what they've said yes to and other people don't realize what they've said no to, says Pastor Kyle Idleman. But Jesus is ready to clearly define the relationship he wants with his followers.

Not a Fan calls you to consider the demands and rewards of being a true disciple. With frankness sprinkled with humor, Idleman invites you to live the way Jesus lived, love the way he loved, pray the way he prayed, and never give up living for the One who gave his all for you.

The Christmas Story: Scripture from the Gospels and the Prophets

Here is the story of Jesus' birth and the fulfillment of Old Testament prophecies in a beautiful pamphlet that can be used as a handout at Christmas and as a Bible study to use during Advent. Using traditional wording from Matthew and Luke's Gospels, and beautiful full-color art, this pamphlet starts with the angelic announcement of John the Baptist's birth and the angel Gabriel's visit to Mary. It continues with Mary and Joseph traveling to Nazareth, the birth of Jesus, and the visitation of the shepherds and the Wise Men. It ends with the Gospel story and a forward look toward Christ's second coming. This beautiful pamphlet will be treasured. Size: 8.5 x 5.5 inches; unfolds to 38 inches. 14 panels. Fits inside a Bible cover.

Contains suggestions for Advent celebrations and traditional suggested readings; also includes suggestions for using the pamphlet as a Christmas program script.

Some Parting Fun...

A young boy after hearing the story of Thanksgiving and how the Indians and the Pilgrims sat down together, climbed up into his father's lap and said,

"Daddy, did you know that if we were Indians, you would be a brave and Mom would be a squawk?"

"That is the best description of your mother I have ever heard," replied his daddy as he ducked.
