Dear ,

I hate to admit it but I have a tendency to push the envelope when it comes to following the speed limit. This bad habit, as all do, caught up with me last week when a traffic officer noticed that I was exceeding the posted limit and pulled me over.

Of course, God used the traffic stop to put something totally unrelated to speeding on my heart.   As I later replayed in my thoughts the red and blue lights flashing in my rearview mirror, I began to think about another question; what if the law prohibited people from being Christians and an officer stopped me for exhibiting Christian behavior?   Would there be enough evidence to write a citation, or to subpoena me to a court hearing?

And then, what if I appeared in court to stand trial for being a Christian; would a judge or jury convict me based upon the evidence presented? I sincerely hope so, but as I think more about it I start to wonder if they could.   Do my actions always exhibit a Christ-like example?   Am I always thoughtful, kind, considerate and/or do my thoughts always stay pure and without malice?

Well, I hate to admit this also, but the honest answer is no.

So, would I be convicted of being a Christian? Maybe not on circumstantial evidence, maybe so if some of my Christ-like qualities showed through.   On any given day it could go either way when left to standards set by human jurisprudence, or upon the observed opinions of others.

But at the judgment, in the court that matters, the one where my accuser will be the prince of this world and my defender will be Jesus, the answer will be an unequivocal GUILTY AS CHARGED! This man is a Christian, made so through faith, not of works, but by the Grace of God through the blood of Jesus Christ.   His sins, though many, are totally forgiven and his debt has been completely paid through the blessed sacrifice of his Savior, Jesus.

I'm not always proud of the things I do or say, and I wish that the sinful me would never surface, but I'm human and it is going to happen.   I want people to see Christ living in me and do my best to reflect His light to all I meet but it doesn't always happen as I'd like. Thank God, when it comes down to the evidence necessary to convict me of being a Christian that there is only one thing that matters; GRACE.

Dear Lord, Thank You for the Grace you've freely given to all who believe.   Please help us live our lives so that others know without a doubt that we are Christ followers.   Give us strength to always do the right thing, according to your will, no matter the consequences. In Jesus Name, Amen.

Blessings,

Steve <><

Vanishing Grace
Vanishing Grace

In his landmark book What's So Amazing about Grace Phillip Yancey issued a call for Christians to be as grace-filled in their behavior as they are in declaring their beliefs. He now returns to this vital subject, asking why Christians continue to lose respect, influence, and reputation in our modern culture.

Yet people everywhere still thirst for grace. How can Christians present truly Good News amid the changing landscapes of our time?  Why do so many people dislike Christians? How can we communicate faith in an appealing way to future generations?

Using his trademark journalistic style,- story filled, compelling, accessible, Yancey explores how grace can bridge the gap between Christian faith and a world increasingly suspicious of it.

Is the light of Jesus that we shine before people, growing dark?

Has a storm cut us off from our power source?

Is the church of Christ disappearing into a dark night?

Storm is a book that will both disturb and enlighten you. It will help you to recognize what is happening and why.  Most of all, it will sound a clarion call to all who believe, reminding us that no matter how fierce the storm, God isn't asking us to take shelter under a table while the light and power go out of His church. No, God has given us the gospel of Christ and the Holy spirit's resources so that we can bring His light to the world.  We are called to join Jesus, the one who calmed the winds and invited Peter to walk with him on water, to let his light shine strong in the blackest night.

BOOKS OF THE MONTH
All In
In Store Price - $5.00

The Gospel costs nothing. You can't earn it or buy it. It can only be received as a free gift compliments of God's grace. It doesn't cost anything, but it demands everything. It demands that we go "all in," a term that simply means placing all that you have into God's hands. Pushing it all in. And that's where we get stuck---spiritual no man's land. We're afraid that if we go all in that we might miss out on what this life has to offer. It's not true.

The only thing you'll miss out on is everything God has to offer. And the good news is this: if you don't hold out

on God, God won't hold out on you.

In Store Special! - $5.00

Are you a follower of Jesus?

Don't answer too quickly. In fact, you may want to read this book before you answer at all. Consider it a "Define the Relationship" conversation to determine exactly where you stand.

You may indeed be a passionate, fully devoted follower of Jesus or you may be just a fan who admires Jesus but isn't ready to let him cramp your style. Then again, maybe you're not into Jesus, period. In any case, don't take the question---Are you a follower of Jesus?---lightly.

Some people don't know what they've said yes to and other people don't realize what they've said no to, says Pastor Kyle Idleman. But Jesus is ready to clearly define the relationship he wants with his followers.

Not a Fan calls you to consider the demands and rewards of being a true disciple. With frankness sprinkled with humor, Idleman invites you to live the way Jesus lived, love the way he loved, pray the way he prayed, and never give up living for the One who gave his all for you.

    Some Parting Fun...

A father wanted to read a magazine, but was being pestered by his daughter. To keep her busy, he tore a sheet out of the magazine that had a picture of the world printed on it. He tore the picture into small pieces and said "Here, now go into the other room and see if you can put this picture of the world back together again."

A few minutes goes by and he daughter appears in the room and hands him the picture all correctly fitted together.

The father was surprised and ask her how she was able to fit all those little pieces of the world back together again so quickly.

"Oh.." she said, "On the other side of the paper was a picture of Jesus and once I got Jesus in the right place, then the world came out alright."
