Dear ,

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)

Autumn arrived on Tuesday, can you believe it?   Where did the summer go? Did we miss it?

Someone once told me that the older you get, the faster time flies by. I didn't get it at the time but now that I am getting "older", I do see how my perspective on time is changing.   It's understandable, and there's a logical explanation.   As a child, a year's worth of time was a greater percentage of my life than it is now. Therefore, at ten years old a year was a full 10% of my life! It seemed to last forever.   Now that I'm nearing 60, a year is a much smaller percentage of my life making it appear to zoom by.

This fall, I hope that I can slow down and enjoy the season.   I want to experience the wonder of God's masterpiece as he takes the brush of His creative power and paints the season.

Autumn's Hidden Beauty

Excerpt from a poem by Laura Edwards

In the beauty of the autumn

There are lessons we should learn,

As the air turns crisp and cool

And maple leaves seem to burn.

With great beauty they've been painted

By the Creator's careful hand

As He paints a portrait of His glory

Across our tired and weary land.

The beauty of these changes

Every eye can see,

Colors inspiring awe and wonder,

Small glimpses of His majesty.

Dear Father, Let us take the time this fall to wonder and marvel at your creation, to give others your calming spirit in their hectic day, and to remember your Grace which sustains us through all the seasons of our lives.   Amen

Blessings,

Steve

In the age of fingertip access to answers and a limitless supply of ambitions, where do we find the God who was birthed in dirt and straw?

Sara Hagerty found him when life stopped working for her. She found him when she was a young adult mired in spiritual busyness and when she was a new bride with doubts about whether her fledgling marriage would survive. She found him alone in the night as she cradled her longing for babies who did not come. She found him as she kissed the faces of children on another continent who had lived years without a mommy's touch. In Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet, Hagerty masterfully draws from the narrative of her life to craft a mosaic of a God who leans into broken stories. Here readers see a God who is present in every changing circumstance. Most significantly, they see a God who is present in every unchanging circumstance as well.

Whatever lost expectations readers are facing---in family, career, singleness, or marriage---Every Bitter Thing Is Sweet will bring them closer to a God who longs for them to know him more. What does it look like to know God's nearness when life breaks? What does it mean to receive his life when earthly life remains barren? How can God turn the bitterness of unmet desire into new flavors of joy? With exquisite storytelling and reflection, Hagerty brings readers back to hope, back to healing, back to a place that God is holding for them alone---a place where the unseen is more real than what the eye can perceive. A place where every bitter thing is sweet.

Meet the people who are Logos

Meet Leann Moore

Leann

Leann is one of the newer additions to the Logos family.   You'll know her as soon as you meet her by her enthusiastic, bubbly and cheerful disposition.   She always has a huge smile and hearty laugh waiting to warmly greet all who visit the store.

As Leann serves at Logos she keeps her most loved scriptures in mind as she works.  "I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength"(Philippians 4:13), "Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything .  Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done." (Phillipians 4:6) and "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path"(Psalm 119:105).  The promise of the Word in her life is very evident in her service as she tackles any project with an energetic  optimism that inspires everyone around.   Her favorite quote is by an anonymous source but sums up her outlook toward any obstacle; "The optimist says the cup is half full. The pessimist says the cup is half empty.  The child of God says, "My cup runneth over!"

Leann is currently reading "Fear, Faith, and a Fistful of Chocolate" by Debora Coty and also enjoys reading works by Jen Hatmaker and Joyce Meyer.  She is a big fan of the Chicken Soup for the Soul books, finding that the stories always inspire and challenge her while most often lifting her spirit.  Her taste in music favors the longtime favorite group, Newsboys, and a more recent artist out of Atlanta, Ga.  - Jamie Grace, winner of the 2012 Dove award for new artist of the year.

Reading, swimming, and working with her plants, actually Leann will tell you "Keeping her plants alive," provides a lot of enjoyment during her leisure time.    She also likes to go camping, travel and of course, shopping!   Whatever activity Leann engages in is sure to be fun as she brings the gift of her wit and humor to anything she does.

Leann is active in two ministry outreach programs.  She assists at The "Sharing Center", an outreach of her church, with food ministry and a clothing closet.   The Sharing Center has been able to provide assistance for 85 families in Campbell and northern Pendleton counties over the past year.   Leann also volunteers at River Valley Nursing Home providing support and encouragement to both staff and residents through her bright and effervescent spirit.

Sensing the Holy Spirit's presence at Logos is something that many have mentioned.  We truly believe that the Spirit is present, and that His presence is because those walking in the Light work and shop here.   Leann's faith and commitment to living a life for Christ are instrumental in inviting a Holy presence at Logos.   Hellen Keller once said, "Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see a shadow".   The work of Christ is very evident in Leann because she keeps her face to the Son and His love Shines to everyone she meets.

Next time you visit Logos be sure to say hello to Leann and bask in her Sonshine for a while; your spirit will be lifted!

The Making of an Ordinary Saint
Making of an Ordinary Saint

Nathan Foster was just a child when his father's classic "Celebration of Discipline" brought the spiritual disciplines into the popular evangelical consciousness. More than thirty years later, Nathan made his own journey into the spiritual disciplines. As he sought day by day to develop habits that would enable him to live more like Jesus, he encountered problems both universal and unique. In this engaging narrative, he draws insights from saints of old to uncover fresh ways of living for the contemporary, postmodern Christian.

Through his successes, struggles, and failures, Foster invites readers on a journey of freedom, pain, frustration, and ultimately joy as he learns to rise above selfish desires, laugh at his own failures, and fall in love with God. Those who have read "Celebration of Discipline "will find in Nathan's book creative new ways to practice the disciplines that have been so formative in their lives. Those who are new to the spiritual disciplines will find that developing a vital, interactive, conversational relationship with God is within their grasp. As a result, the holy habits of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are truly possible for all.

Jesus said the soul is worth more than the world. The soul is the key to our lives, binding our heart, our mind, and our spirit together. Shouldn't you get pretty clear on exactly what the soul is? And how to care for it?

Taken from John Ortberg's book Soul Keeping, this booklet reveals what the soul's greatest need is, now and for eternity. Have you ever thought about why your soul is hurting and if that could be standing in the way of your spiritual growth? Ortberg writes that once your soul has been properly cared for, you will find your way back to God from hopelessness, depression, relationship struggles, and lack of fulfillment.

Jesus said we could find rest for our souls. Ortberg points us in that direction.

Boundaries - BOOK OF THE MONTH
Boundaries
In Store Price - $5.00

Having clear boundaries is essential to a healthy, balanced lifestyle. A boundary is a personal property line that marks those things for which we are responsible. In other words, boundaries define who we are and who we are not.

Boundaries impact all areas of our lives: Physical boundaries help us determine who may touch us and under what circumstances -- Mental boundaries give us the freedom to have our own thoughts and opinions -- Emotional boundaries help us to deal with our own emotions and disengage from the harmful, manipulative emotions of others -- Spiritual boundaries help us to distinguish God's will from our own and give us renewed awe for our Creator --

Often, Christians focus so much on being loving and unselfish that they forget their own limits and limitations. When confronted with their lack of boundaries, they ask:

- Can I set limits and still be a loving person?

- What are legitimate boundaries?

- What if someone is upset or hurt by my boundaries?

- How do I answer someone who wants my time, love, energy, or money?

- Aren't boundaries selfish?

- Why do I feel guilty or afraid when I consider setting boundaries?

Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend offer biblically-based answers to these and other tough questions, showing us how to set healthy boundaries with our parents, spouses, children, friends, co-workers, and even ourselves.

Some Parting Fun...

Brilliant autumn scenery had attracted a stroller who stopped and sat at a park bench to admire the view depicted by an artist.

"What a glorious scene!" he said. "I wish I could take those colors home with me."

"You will," said the artist. "You are sitting on my paint brushes!"
