Dear ,

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 (ESV)

This weekend we celebrate Labor Day, a day away from work, and the last holiday weekend of the summer. Before we know it the leaves will be turning, the frost will be on the pumpkin and just around the corner we'll be looking toward Christmas.

With 2014 quickly passing by, it's as good a time as any to reflect on how the year is going for us. How is our "work" for the Lord progressing this year? Are the things we do and the choices we make reflecting God's glory and brining Him honor? Have we shared the gospel message with anyone this year? Have we been listening to God by reading His word faithfully and taking time to pray?

Here are a few passages from Scripture to encourage your work during these last months of the year:

  • And so brothers of mine, stand firm! Let nothing move you as you busy yourselves in the Lord's work. Be sure that nothing you do for him is ever lost or ever wasted. 1 Corinthians 15:58 (Phillips)

  • Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval. John 6:27 (NIV)

  • In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' Acts 20:35

  • I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. John 9:4 (KJV)

  • All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Proverbs 14:23 (NIV)

  • Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Colossians 3:23 (NLT)

  • Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. Colossians 3:17 (NASB)

This world so desperately needs the work we, as Christians, are equipped to do. Let's make it our priority to finish this year strong in our faith and in doing the Lord's work. And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Luke 10:2 (ESV)

Blessings,

Steve

Meet the people who are Logos
Cheryl

Meet Cheryl Blythe

Cheryl has been with Logos almost from the beginning of the store. As a direct answer to prayer, and with the nudging of the Holy Spirit, Cheryl came to Logos after years of experience in the social services ministry. Her contributions at Logos have blessed many who, like she, work to serve others.

Cheryl's role at Logos is to assist our church customers with ministry resources.   She continues to use her training as she assists others, who are in pastoral care and ministry, to meet the spiritual needs of their congregants. A typical day for Cheryl will find her locating small group studies, Sunday school curriculum, choir music, communion supplies, alter cloths, candles, and hundreds of other resources.   Her efforts help pastors and church leaders spend their time more effectively serving people, rather than tracking down the items necessary to support their ministry.

Books that are well written, with good characters and subjects that assist in bringing people closer to the Lord, while encouraging personal growth, are ones that Cheryl seeks out and enjoys to read. She firmly believes that an encouraging spirit fosters hope in all she meets and practices one of her favorite quotes found in the film, "Facing the Giants"; "Praise Him in the good and praise Him in the bad!" She believes that no matter the chaotic circumstance of the day, or in life, it is a good thing to give Him praise for He is good!

Cheryl's life verse is Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." Her delight surely is in the Lord as she serves unselfishly in her role at the store, as well as in service to her local church as a youth leader, choir member, and praise and worship leader. All who know Cheryl know her to always put her faith and trust in Jesus giving her desires over to His.

During her time away from the store, Cheryl enjoys reading, being crafty (we all know she can be very crafty), and just hanging out with her family; husband Craig, daughter Courtney, son Noah, mother Opal, and nephew Matthew. Even when on her "own" time, Cheryl is always keeping an eye out for things that would contribute to a deeper spiritual walk for those she serves. She is a real joy to her family, and a valuable asset to the churches and Christian communities of Northern Kentucky. Logos is blessed to have her on staff.

But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

--Acts 20:24 (ESV)

Growing old has been the greatest surprise of my life," says Billy Graham, known by many as God's Ambassador. "I would have never guessed what God had in store for me, and I know that as I am nearing home, He will not forsake me the last mile of the way."

In "Nearing Home" this man of faith--now in his nineties--explores the challenges of aging while gleaning foundational truths from Scripture. Billy Graham invites us to journey with him as he considers the golden years while anticipating the hope of being reunited with his wife, Ruth, in his heavenly home that eclipses this world. "When granted many years of life, growing old in age is natural, but growing old with grace is a choice," says the author. "Growing older with grace is possible for all who will set their hearts and minds on the Giver of grace, the Lord Jesus Christ."

Join Billy Graham as he shares the challenges of fading strength but still standing strong in his commitment to finishing life well.

"Explore with me not only the realities of life as we grow older but also the hope and fulfillment and even joy that can be ours once we learn to look at these years from God's point of view and discover His strength to sustain us every day."   --BILLY GRAHAM
