Dear ,

As I was putting on my sunglasses today I had a flashback to Elwood Blues, portrayed by Dan Akroyd in "The Blues Brothers".  Do you remember his infamous quote whenever he and Jake ran up against insurmountable odds, "We can't be stopped, We're on a mission from God".

I then started thinking, a dangerous thing to do, about my mission from God. How do I react when up against some hardship? Do I crumble in disbelief and self-pity, or do I realize that when God is for me, who can be against me? Do I persevere toward the goal or give up and throw in the towel?

Unfortunately, I think I have to say, "it depends".

I know that I want to complete my mission, and believe that I generally try to do my best. Whether it's to go and make disciples, be salt and light in my community, continue to provide Christian resources through Logos, be a faithful and loving husband, father and grandpa, or set an example in the workplace that brings Glory to God; whatever the mission from God, I sincerely do want to succeed.

I say that my dedication to mission "depends" though because when I fail to work on my relationship with the Father, my commitment to the mission is at risk. If I don't take the time to communicate through prayer, talking with Jesus and listening for his voice in response, my efforts become less than effective. If I don't read His Word and meditate on the instructions found within, I tend to stumble rather than stand strong in the face of adversity.   As I move away from God my mission suffers as I fear I won't be able to carry on.

The great news is that when I do take the time, and make the effort to become close to Christ, that my enthusiasm, dedication, and purpose of mission become strong. I don't have all the answers, and don't know how things will work out, but when I am close to Him I know that it doesn't matter.   All I need to do is to embrace the mission with a singleness of purpose that "I'm on a mission from God!" and know that there is nothing that can prevent me from fulfilling His will for my life's work.

How is it for you? Are you on track with your mission? Do you need to take some time today to rest and draw close to Christ? Get close to Him and let Him bring comfort and strength so that you can boldly proclaim that "I'm on a mission from God" and nothing will stand in my way!

Blessings,

Steve

But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.

--Acts 20:24 (ESV)

Growing old has been the greatest surprise of my life," says Billy Graham, known by many as God's Ambassador. "I would have never guessed what God had in store for me, and I know that as I am nearing home, He will not forsake me the last mile of the way."

In "Nearing Home" this man of faith--now in his nineties--explores the challenges of aging while gleaning foundational truths from Scripture. Billy Graham invites us to journey with him as he considers the golden years while anticipating the hope of being reunited with his wife, Ruth, in his heavenly home that eclipses this world. "When granted many years of life, growing old in age is natural, but growing old with grace is a choice," says the author. "Growing older with grace is possible for all who will set their hearts and minds on the Giver of grace, the Lord Jesus Christ."

Join Billy Graham as he shares the challenges of fading strength but still standing strong in his commitment to finishing life well.

"Explore with me not only the realities of life as we grow older but also the hope and fulfillment and even joy that can be ours once we learn to look at these years from God's point of view and discover His strength to sustain us every day."   --BILLY GRAHAM

Some Parting Fun...

A minister was offered $500.00 to do a funeral of a man that was the worst sinner in the county. The only stipulation was that he had to refer to the man as a saint in his eulogy.

The day of the funeral, the minister got up and said, "this man was a drunk, he was a cheat, he was a thief; but in comparison to his brothers he was a saint."
