Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and your plans will succeed.
Proverbs 16:3
This time of year kids of all ages graduate from kindergarten all the way to grad school. Graduation can be a time to reminisce. But graduation is also a time to look ahead toward the future-to the next step on our path to further education or that new job.
No matter what age we are and no matter where we are on our path of learning, we need to remember that this world and all it offers are nothing next to the plans God has for us. He is preparing our future-a place in eternal paradise-for us, not because we deserve it, but because of the perfect life Christ lived for us and the suffering and death He endured in our place. No matter what opportunities or challenges may be allowed to cross our path, He is there with us.
Wouldn't it be refreshing to attend a graduation ceremony where the theme of the commencement address would be Proverbs 16:3?
"Commit to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed."
Commit means to entrust, to place into a safe place, to obligate or to bind, to pledge. Whether you go on to additional education, pursue a career, start a family, enter the mission field, enlist in the military; no matter what you do or where you go from here, if you commit to the Lord - your plans will succeed. If we entrust our lives to Him, giving him control of everything in our lives then we are assured that our plans will succeed.
When we commit ourselves to the Lord, we do those things that ensure our plans will be His plans. We develop a relationship with Him through prayer, and determine His will through Bible study. We receive Christ to become His children and are indwelled with the Holy Spirit which guides us and keeps us within His will for our lives. We strive to become more like Christ and reflect His love to all we encounter on our journey. By committing our life to the Lord we pledge to seek His plans, and to serve Him however He directs. When we do this, our plans cannot fail because we've embraced His plans for our lives.
Wherever we find ourselves in the journey, beginning something new, completing something we've worked on for some time, or striving to maintain our course of endeavor; we need to commit ourselves to the Lord, for it is only through our total commitment that we can be guaranteed that our plans will succeed.
Blessings

Some Parting Fun...

The soon to graduate seminarian thought he had pulled a good one.
On the final exam, which asked students to delve into the complexities of theology, he simply wrote: "Only God knows the answers to these questions!"
Grading the paper, the professor wrote,
"Nice proposition. If true, God gets 100. You get a 0."
