In the movie, "Groundhog Day", reporter Phil Conners gets caught in a never-ending loop, reliving the same Feb. 2nd over and over and over again. He's been given the task of reporting on the emergence, and subsequent springtime prediction, of Puxatawny Phil and he absolutely despises the assignment. It's beyond his comprehension as to why he is stuck reliving Groundhog day, but for those watching the movie it is apparent that Phil has some life lessons to learn before moving on.
Do you ever have times like that? I know that I will often look at my wife and complain, "It's another Groundhog Day", as an indication that I feel trapped in the same old rut day after day after day. Get up way too early, go to work, get home way too late, go to bed, get up again and do the same the next day; day after day. It can be a struggle. When I consider my attitude about it, I wonder what lessons I need to learn to be able to move past the feelings of being trapped in a "Groundhog day" type of life.
One thing I am learning is that God will not leave me STUCK in that same old grumpy, Groundhog day mindset! No, He is transforming me little by little....from "glory to glory". I can rejoice that "He who has begun a good work in me WILL carry it on to completion." (Philippians 1:6) As Max Lucado says, "God loves me just the way I am, but loves me too much to leave me that way." He wants me to reflect the image of Christ.....in all that I do....all that I say....all that I think.....all that I am. And, He will give me plenty of "do-overs"- opportunities to get it right!
So, if you are feeling stuck in a Groundhog day rut this week just remember that Jesus loves you and will not leave nor forsake you. Could be that the "rut" we find ourselves in is making us what we need to be in order to more brightly reflect His Glory.
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ." 2 Corinthians 1:3-5

"You'll get through this."
"It won't be painless."
"It won't be quick."
"But God will use this mess for good."
"Don't be foolish or naive."
"But don't despair either."
"With God's help, you'll get through this."
You fear you won't make it through. We all do. We fear that the depression will never lift, the yelling will never stop, the pain will never leave. In the pits, surrounded by steep walls and aching reminders, we wonder: Will this gray sky ever brighten? This load ever lighten?
In" You'll Get Through This," pastor and" New York Times" best-selling author, Max Lucado offers sweet assurance. "Deliverance is to the Bible what jazz music is to Mardi Gras: bold, brassy, and everywhere." Max reminds readers God doesn't promise that getting through trials will be quick or painless. It wasn't for Joseph--tossed in a pit by his brothers, sold into slavery, wrongfully imprisoned, forgotten and dismissed--but his Old Testament story is in the Bible for this reason: to teach us to trust God to trump evil.
With the compassion of a pastor, the heart of a storyteller, and the joy of one who has seen what God can do, Max explores the story of Joseph and the truth of Genesis 50:20. What Satan intends for evil, God redeems for good.

365 Ways to Put Jesus First
Athletes and actors, models and musicians, pastors and politicians ... many have stepped forward, looked in the camera, and proclaimed, "I am second." But most in the I Am Second movement are "not" celebrities. They are ordinary people--and they've come to the simple realization that when God comes first in their lives, everything makes sense.
But living second is not easy. It takes grit and humility, submission to God's will, a willingness to listen and serve, an openness to God's healing and call.
"Live Second "is a daily guide to help you. With 365 readings, prayers, actions steps, and an invitation to join other Christ-followers online, what you hold in your hands is a tool built with truth, scripture, and a sure path to put Jesus first every day.
The Christian life is not meant to be easy, just worth it. "Live Second "is exactly what you need as you become the new, inspired, God-honoring creation he made you to be.

Perspective is a powerful thing.
Andy Andrews has spent the past five years doing a double take at every white-haired old man he sees, hoping to have just one more conversation with the person to whom he owes his life.
Through a chance encounter at a local bookstore, Andy is reunited with the man who changed everything for him - Jones, also known as "The Noticer."
As the story unfolds, Jones uses his unique talent of noticing little things that make a big difference. And these "little things" grant the people of Fairhope, Alabama, a life-changing gift - perspective. Along the way, families will be united, financial opportunities will be created, and readers will be left with powerfully simple solutions to the everyday problems we all face.
Through the lens of a parenting class at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Alabama, Jones guides a seemingly random group to ask specific questions inspired by his curious advice that "You can't believe everything you think." Those questions lead to answers for which people have been searching for centuries: How do we begin to change the culture in which we live? What is the key to creating a life of success and value? What if what we think is the end...is only the beginning?
What starts as a story of one person's everyday reality unfolds into the extraordinary principles available to anyone looking to create the life for which they were intended.

Some Parting Fun.... |
Over breakfast one morning, a woman said to her husband, "I'll bet you don't know what day this is?"
"Of course I do," he answered as if he was offended, and left for the office.
The doorbell rang at 10 a. m., and when the wife opened the door, she was handed a box of a dozen long stemmed red roses. At 1: 00 p. m., a foil-wrapped, two-pound box of her favorite chocolates was delivered.
Later, a boutique delivered a designer dress. The woman couldn't wait for her husband to come home.
"First the flowers, then the chocolates and then the dress!" she exclaimed. "I've never had a more wonderful Groundhog Day in my life!"
