Dear ,
But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and[c] we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 1 timothy 6:6-9 (ESV)
You've probably all sang the song or said the words "God Bless America". Perhaps you've even seen a bumper sticker with the phrase.
Hasn't God truly blessed America? Our population is very rich when compared to the vast majority of people living today. We enjoy a life style and wealth that is one of the best, if not the very best, in the world. Yet we grumble that we don't have enough, we don't have this or that, or, we are not as rich as our friend, our neighbor, our parents, etc.,. And the worst tragedy of all is that most Americans don't give thanks for, or even acknowledge, all the blessings God has given us.
Chances are that if you are reading this, you are in the top 10% of the world's richest people! If you have shelter, own a TV and a car you qualify. According to the Global Rich List:
If you make $20,000 per year you are almost in the richest 11%
If you make $30,000 per year you are almost in the richest 7%
If you make $50,000 per year you are in the top 1% of the world's richest people
Author Richard Stearns points out in his book, "The Hole in our Gospel", that the American church, made up of approximately 5% of all Christians worldwide, controls about 50% of all global Christian wealth. It would only take a little over 1% of American Christian's incomes to lift the poorest one billion people in the world out of extreme poverty.
As you celebrate Thanksgiving next week, remember to give God thanks for all the blessings He has showered upon our nation. Remember also to share a portion of your blessing with those who are less fortunate; give to a local charity, support the mission work of your church, share some time and resources with someone in need. Jesus said, "It is more blessed to give than receive". We have received so much; let us freely give from our abundance in Jesus' name.
Blessings,
Steve <><

The Hole in our Gospel |
| In Store or On-Line |
WHAT DOES GOD EXPECT OF US?
Is our faith just about going to church, studying the Bible and avoiding the most serious sins--or does God expect more?
Have we embraced the whole gospel or a gospel with a hole in it?
Ten years ago, Rich Stearns came face-to-face with that question as he sat in a mud hut in Rakai, Uganda, listening to the heartbreaking story of an orphaned child. Stearns' journey there took much more than a long flight to Africa. It took answering God's call on his life, a call that tore him out of his corner office at one of America's most prestigious corporations--to walk with the poorest of the poor in our world.
"The Hole in Our Gospel" is the compelling true story of a corporate CEO who setaside worldly success for something far more significant, and discovered the full power of the gospel of Jesus Christ to change his own life. He uses his journey to demonstrate how the gospel--the whole gospel--was always meant to be a world changing social revolution, a revolution that begins with us. |
Jesus > Religion |
 | In Store or On-Line |
Abandon dead, dry, rule-keeping and embrace the promise of being truly known and deeply loved.
Jefferson Bethke burst into the cultural conversation in 2012 with a passionate, provocative poem titled "Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus." The 4-minute video literally became an overnight sensation, with 7 million YouTube views in its first 48 hours (and 23+ million in a year). The message blew up on social-media, triggering an avalanche of responses running the gamut from encouraged to enraged.
In "Jesus > Religion," Bethke unpacks similar contrasts that he drew in the poem--highlighting the difference between teeth gritting and grace, law and love, performance and peace, despair and hope. With refreshing candor he delves into the motivation behind his message, beginning with the unvarnished tale of his own plunge from the pinnacle of a works-based, fake-smile existence that sapped his strength and led him down a path of destructive behavior.
Bethke is quick to acknowledge that he's not a pastor or theologian, but simply a regular, twenty-something who cried out for a life greater than the one for which he had settled. Along his journey, Bethke discovered the "real" Jesus, who beckoned him beyond the props of false religion.

Some Parting Fun.... |
The junior Sunday school teacher asked her eight eager 10-year-olds if they would give one million dollars to the missionaries.
"YES!, they all screamed.
"Would you give one thousand dollars? She asked.
Again, they shouted "YES"!
She continued, "How about one hundred dollars?"
"Oh Yes!", they all agreed.
Finally the teacher asked, "Would you give just one dollar to the missionaries?"
The boys exclaimed "Yes" as before except for Johnnie.
"Johnnie," the teacher said as she noticed the boy clutching his pocket, "why didn't you say 'Yes' this time?
"Well", he stammered, "I HAVE a dollar."
