Dear ,
On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers*approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, 'Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!' When he saw them, he said to them, 'Go and show yourselves to the priests.' And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus' feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, 'Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?' Then he said to him, 'Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.' Luke 17:11-19
Have you ever gone out of your way to help someone only to find that they didn't appreciate your effort? Or even worse, have you helped someone, and then discovered that the person you helped had an attitude that they expected, or even deserved, your help with no demonstrated gratitude or intention of thanking you. Not a very rewarding experience.
Let's look at it from the other side. How many times has someone gone out of their way to help me, and I have failed to give them thanks, or perhaps I have had an attitude of entitlement rather than one of humble gratitude? Jesus's healing of the 10 lepers provides a lesson for us in either case.
As we enter this season of expectation, good will, and celebration let's not forget to honor the one who has healed our leprous hearts. We should thank Him often, each and every day, for His sacrifice enabling our eternal salvation, for His constant care and guidance, and for the many blessings He bestows.
John Wesley often quoted "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can." As Christians, we should give of ourselves to those in need, whether or not they show any appreciation for our effort. Giving our resources, time, or abilities in Jesus' name, bringing honor and glory to Him, is far more rewarding than seeking personal recognition.
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (NLT)
Blessings,
Steve <><

Some Parting Fun....

One Christmas, mom decreed that she was no longer going to remind her children of their thank you note duties. As a result, their grandmother never received acknowledgments of the generous checks she had given.
The next year things were different however.
"The children came over in person to thank me," the grandparent told a friend triumphantly.
"How wonderful!" the friend exclaimed. "What do you think caused the change in behavior?"
"Oh, that's easy," the grandmother replied. "This year I didn't sign the checks."
