Our Sunday School class came across the subject of fear last week and I remembered a sermon that I had heard one time where the pastor said that the command "Fear Not" was found 365 times in the Bible. One "Fear Not" for each day of the year. I decided this week to see for myself if there really were 365 "Fear Nots" to be found in scripture. Looking at web sites where people with much more knowledge than I revealed that the phrase, "fear not" can not be found that many times. Most of the estimates are somewhere around 120 at best if you count "fear not" and "be not afraid". A good blog I found on the subject (Cliff West Ministries) had the following to say: Although not found 365 times in the Bible, "fear not" was spoken as an imperative from the lips of Jesus, and therefore should be taken as a direct command to be adhered. There are many earthly reasons to fear today; the failing economy, bad reports from the doctor, global unrest, terrorist threats, and hopeless predictions from political prognosticators just to name a few. However, as followers of Christ we have greater reasons to fear not; God will not fail you (Deut.31:6), God will not forsake you (1 Chron. 28:20), God is with you (Isaiah 41:10), God will help you (Isaiah 41:13), God knows you by name (Isaiah 43:1), God can do marvelous things (Joel 2:21), It is God's pleasure to give you the kingdom (Luke 12:32), and Christ is the First and the Last (Rev.1:17). Simply put, Jesus said, "Do not fear" (Matthew 10:31 NKJV). Hearing it once from Jesus is just as good as hearing it 365 times. He said it, that settles it!

Some Parting Fun....
| A couple was arranging their wedding and asked the bakery to inscribe the wedding cake with 1 John 4:18 which reads "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear."
The bakery evidently lost, smudged or otherwise misread the noted reference, and beautifully inscribed on the cake John 4:18 ... "For you have had five husbands, and the man you now have is not your husband."
