Dear ,

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength."The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'  There is no commandment greater than these."  Mark 12:30-31 (NIV)

A recent observation by a dear friend and colleague, Becky, reminded me that as Christians, we each have a responsibility to "love our neighbor as ourselves."

Becky was attending a business meeting where one of the other participants made this comment, "I'm trying to focus on each person I come in contact with".   That statement led her to ponder about those people she meets on a daily basis including friends, family, service providers, cashiers, delivery persons, customers, employees, etc., and how she could better focus on each one.

How to focus on someone could take many different forms, she thought, but perhaps the most basic way, even if the contact is only for a short amount of time, is to look into the other person's eyes.  It has been said that the eyes are the window to the soul, so taking time to look into another's eyes, at least long enough to know what color they are, seems to be a good way to really begin focusing on that person.

What we see in another's eyes can help us know how to interact with that person.  Looking into the eyes can often give clues about how to best relate during our time together.  For example, if you see sadness or pain in someone's eyes, it may not be the time to be perky or jovial.  It may be better to think in terms of being respectful - offering up a silent prayer for them, or, if prompted by the Holy Spirit, to even ask them if everything is okay.  On the other hand, if you see a sparkle in another's eye perhaps there is some joy waiting to be shared and celebrated.

Why not give it a try this week?   As you meet others, take the time to really look into their eyes.  Whether you are with them for only a few seconds, or for a much longer time, focus on them and their needs rather than on yourself.   Give each person you meet your undivided attention and really listen to what they are saying, verbally, as well as through the windows of their soul.

"The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!" - Matthew 6:22-23 (NIV)

Blessings,

WARNING: This is not just another book on evangelism. It's a simple idea of evangelism through friendship first, and the opportunities to share your faith that follow. It will bring friendships you already have to a new levels, and create opportunities for new, authentic friendships with those you will eventually meet.

OUT: Evangelism as sales pitch, as conquest, as warfare, as ultimatum, as threat, as proof, as argument, as entertainment, as show, as monologue, as something you have to do.

IN: Disciple-making as conversation, as friendship, as influence, as invitation, as companionship, as challenge, as opportunity, as conversation, as dance, as something you get to do.You're more ready for this than you realize, and so are your friends.

Our everyday lives are more than just a story being written.God created each one of us to receive and send a message intentionally into the lives of the people we do life with daily.

That's how love is demonstrated, how relationships happen, and how people find the abundant life as they are intended to find it.

Pastor and speaker Jason C. Dukes helps readers see how giving yourself away in the daily means being to other people the letter of God's love that has been written on our hearts.

Our community needs us, and our world needs us . . . to live sent.

"Changing "Love" from a Noun to a Verb"

In our frantically driven, complex lifestyle, we suffer from fatigue, little margin, shallow relationships, and fractured families. As a result of this driven lifestyle, our souls are dis-eased--they have a lack of ease.

This highly practical, comforting book maintains that it is possible to run the race at a different, more meaningful speed. Not only is it possible; it's absolutely necessary.

The key to simplifying life, Chip Ingram says, is to make sure love is your #1 priority. Love redirects our focus and unravels the complex, overextended lifestyle that keeps us ever running but never arriving. In Spiritual Simplicity, Ingram explains how to change our love from a noun to a verb and choose to concentrate on what really matters: the people we love the most.

Each chapter ends with probing questions to help you process, ponder, and discuss the life-giving principles laid out in this desperately needed book.

This e-chart is just a small sample portion of the Fruit of the Spirit resources from Rose Publishing, which provides a definition for each fruit of the Spirit, how each fruit was exemplified in Jesus' life, Scripture references that show the fruit manifested in someone's life, the Greek word for each of the fruits of the Spirit and its significance.

The Fruit of the Spirit study is an excellent study for believers at any level of spiritual growth or maturity. Believers will spend a lifetime seeking the manifestation of the fruits in their lives. The Fruit of the Spirit pamphlet provides insight to how the fruit of the Spirit was evident in the life of Jesus as well as what the fruit truly looks like in the lives of believers.

One of the fruit of the Spirit is love. The pamphlet defines love this way: Love is not based on emotions or feelings. It is a decision to be committed to the well being of others without any conditions or circumstances.
