Dear ,
I listened to a very good sermon on peace last week and want to share the PEACE acronym with you. The sermon is by the late Adrian Rogers, and can be heard in full at www.oneplace.com. Read through the references and find comfort in knowing that there is Peace in Christ through our storms of life.
Read the familiar passage of Jesus sending the disciples across the sea while he stayed to pray. This occurred just after the feeding of five thousand. Matthew 14: 22-33; John 6:16-21; Mark 6:45-52. Note that peace is not the absence of problems, but the addition of power. Real peace is power in the midst of the storm.
PEACE
Providence - His purpose brought me here. Don't believe that being within the will of God will keep us from the storm. Just as the disciples experienced the storm while within the will of God, we can expect to experience storms in our life. God may not cause it but He will allow it. Ask, what can I learn from this storm?
Entreaty - His prayers protect me in the storm. Mark 6:47-48 Jesus lives to make intercession for you. While the disciples were rowing against the wind, Jesus was praying for them.
Assurance - His presence comes to me here. Jesus will be more real to you in your storm than in any other time. Just as the disciples did not recognize Him as He walked on the water. If you are a child of God, You may not recognize Him, but He is always there. Isaiah 43:1-2 But now this is what the Lord says - he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: "Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. (NIV) Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (KJV) We need to learn how to recognize Jesus in the midst of the storm.
Comfort - His power sustains me here. (com fort = with strength) The very waves the disciples were afraid of coming over their heads were already under Jesus feet. Ephisians 1: 22 "And God placed all things under His feet and appointed him to be head over everything " (NIV).
Expectation - His promise assures me here. I can expect Him to keep His word. Lord, Save Me. We do not live by explanations; we live by promises. As high as the heaven is above the earth so are his thoughts higher than our thoughts. Andrew murray - God is willing to assume full responsibility of a life committed to Him.
Philippians 4:7 - And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (NRSV)
Blessings,
Steve <><

Hurting people want a God who is big enough to rescue them from heartache and circumstances beyond imagination. But even if they believe that such a God exists, they may have no idea how to approach him, much less how to ask him for the impossible. In this powerful book, Linda Evans Shepherd shows readers how to reach out to God and ask for a miracle. She shows how God's miracles may not come packaged in the ways we would expect, but they do come in ways that will transform our lives. This book will be a comfort to those who struggle with faith yet still dare to believe that God cares. Through solid biblical teaching and real-life stories of answered prayer, Shepherd walks with readers on a journey to renewed hope and the assurance that God still works miracles. |

In "More or Less, "Jeff Shinabarger calls readers to create their own social experiments to answer the question, "What is enough?"
It all started with one idea: What would happen if we created a culture in which we gave away whatever was more than enough for us? How would our habits change if we shed the excess of money, clutter, and food in our lives?
In "More or Less, "readers will learn how to draw a line of "enough" in their consumer choices, how to see generosity as a chance to experience freedom in a greedy world, and how to make small changes now that will help others forever.
As Shinabarger reminds them, defining "enough" is more than a responsibility--it is an opportunity to give hope.

Growing old has been the greatest surprise of my life," says Billy Graham, known by many as God's Ambassador. "I would have never guessed what God had in store for me, and I know that as I am nearing home, He will not forsake me the last mile of the way."
In "Nearing Home" this man of faith--now in his nineties--explores the challenges of aging while gleaning foundational truths from Scripture. Billy Graham invites us to journey with him as he considers the golden years while anticipating the hope of being reunited with his wife, Ruth, in his heavenly home that eclipses this world. "When granted many years of life, growing old in age is natural, but growing old with grace is a choice," says the author. "Growing older with grace is possible for all who will set their hearts and minds on the Giver of grace, the Lord Jesus Christ."
Join Billy Graham as he shares the challenges of fading strength but still standing strong in his commitment to finishing life well.

Some Parting Fun....

Two friends, one an Optimist and the other a Pessimist, could never quite agree on any topic of discussion.
One day the Optimist decided he had found a good way to pull his friend out of his continual Pessimistic thinking.
The Optimist owned a huntin' dog that could walk on water. His plan? Take the Pessimist and the dog out duck hunting in a boat.
They got out into the middle of the lake, and the Optimist brought down a duck. The dog immediately walked out across the water, retrieved the duck, and walked back to the boat.
The Optimist looked at his Pessimistic friend and said, "What do you think about that?"
The Pessimist replied, "That dog can't swim, can he?
