Logos Christian Bookstore Newsletter

Dear ,

A couple of weeks ago while the snow and rain were falling and high temperatures each day hovered around 30 degrees I came home to a horticultural work in progress.   Marie had finally had enough winter and decided that it was time to get some seeds into the soil.   It was great fun watching, and even assisting, Marie and our three year old grandson, Benjamin, spread some soil in the little containers, punch a hole in the center of the dirt, and drop in a couple of seeds.   Ben was very intentional as he worked, and was very excited to learn that these little seeds would someday become pumpkins, tomatoes, peppers and flowers.

Watching them work made me think about the seeds that grandma and I, along with mom and dad, are planting in Benjamin's little heart. Seeds of respect, love, kindness, caring, and good manners.   We are also working to plant and cultivate a love for Jesus, and for the church. That little heart is so fertile and accepting at this point, but already we see him being influenced by others, and by things, that would interfere with the successful germination and growth of the seeds we are planting.

Just like the vegetables and flowers we plant need cultivation and nourishment to grow, we all need spiritual food and cultivation to grow into people that bring glory to God. That is why Jesus said, "Man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God." (Luke 4:4) Since the Bible is the Word of God, it is important that we read and study the Bible to know the word that proceeds from the mouth of God and to grow spiritually.

In addition to nourishment, spiritual cultivation is necessary to prevent weeds of sin, or indifference, from stunting our growth. Cultivation isn't accomplished without actions; hoeing, spading, plowing, and trimming. Likewise Spiritual Cultivation takes action; study, reading, hearing, doing. We need to provide cultivation for others, just as they need to help cultivate us. Keep speaking the truth, guiding, leading, encouraging those around you to keep the faith so that the seeds planted may grow and blossom into beautiful service to God.

Blessings,

Steve  <><

50 People Every Christian Should Know
50 People Every Christian Should Know
In Store or On Line

Christians in the twenty-first century need encouragement and inspiration to lead lives that honor God. When faith is weak or the pressures of the world seem overwhelming, remembering the great men and women of the past can inspire us to renewed strength and purpose. Our spiritual struggles are not new, and the stories of those who have gone before us can help lead the way to our own victories.

"50 People Every Christian Should Know "gives a glimpse into the lives of such people as Charles H. Spurgeon, G. Campbell Morgan, A. W. Tozer, Fanny Crosby, Amy Carmichael, Jonathan Edwards, James Hudson Taylor, and many more. Combining the stories of fifty of these faithful men and women, beloved author Warren W. Wiersbe offers today's readers inspiration and encouragement in life's uncertain journey.

10 Christians Everyone Should Know
In Store or On Line

In a book titled 10 Christians Everyone Should Know, one would expect to find writings on such fine souls as Saints Patrick and Nicholas. But some surprises are in store, for this little tome holds unexpected short biographical gems such as that of Jane Austen, whose steadfast faith was the undercurrent in her writings. And then there is Sir Isaac Newton, who changed physics from a purely philosophical subject into one involving mathematics and careful observation, but who actually wrote more on theology than physics. Then there is William F. Buckley, who inspired and incited three generations of Americans to engage more actively in public life, while personally pursuing a quiet but devout faith in Jesus Christ.

Through their relationships, struggles, prayers, and desires, each person profiled uniquely illuminates our shared experience. We are now living in the world they created and understand both it and ourselves better in the light of their lives.

Jesus Was a Country Boy
Jesus was a Country Boy
In Store or On Line
A country music superstar talks about Jesus and the simple, faith-based lessons that he learned from his father.

Like the country boy next door, Jesus modeled a grassroots faith that can move mountains. He didn't come to start a mega-church or raise money for a new sanctuary. He didn't come for the religious elite or people who think they have all the answers. He came for good old boys and country gals. He came to love and show that knowing his father is as free and easy as a summer breeze on a front-porch swing. If you want to find God, then it's time to lose religion and meet a country boy from Bethlehem.

Clay writes with a lack of pretense and a hands-on attitude toward life, drawing from his own humble beginnings and reminding readers what it means to be grounded in faith and home-grown in love.

Happy Anniversary!!

****   10 YEARS !!   ****

It doesn't seem like 10 years has gone by since Logos Christian Bookstore opened for business in Alexandria, KY.   In the years since that April 4th, 2003 opening day we have met many new friends, and grown closer to our Lord while serving Him through Christian retail. Because of your purchases, your confidence and your referrals, Logos is able, and blessed, to provide products, service and ministry to the people of Northern Kentucky and beyond.

Over the first decade, many visitors to the store have not only found the products they may have been looking for, but have also experienced the Grace of God in ways they may not have been expecting.   We have seen those searching find a saving relationship with Christ, we have seen those hurting find comfort, we have seen the downhearted find Joy, and we have seen fellow servants find help and resources to assist in bringing Good News to their circle of influence.   This is beyond our understanding as we continue to serve, humbly doing our best, knowing that God provides that which we cannot.

We covet your prayers as we do your continued support.   We also encourage and welcome your suggestions and constructive criticism to help us know how to better serve alongside you in ministry.   Please drop us a line anytime with your comments, suggestions, experiences, and or ministry needs.   You may use our web submission page at Logos Contact Us Form, or directly through email at logos@logosbookstorenky.com.   We earnestly want to continue serving and look forward, with your help, to the next 10 years.

Throughout the month of April, watch for special events and offerings to recognize and celebrate the anniversary of your local Logos Christian Bookstore!   Our loyal email newsletter customers, YOU, are invited anytime throughout the month to simply say, "Happy 10th Anniversary Logos!" when checking out for 25% off the most expensive, regularly priced, item on your purchase.

Fruit of the Spirit

Download this FREE chart, taken from the Rose, "Fruit of the Spirit" pamphlet.

This e-chart is just a small sample portion of the Fruit of the Spirit resources from Rose Publishing, which provides a definition for each fruit of the Spirit, how each fruit was exemplified in Jesus' life, Scripture references that show the fruit manifested in someone's life, the Greek word for each of the fruits of the Spirit and its significance.

The Fruit of the Spirit study is an excellent study for believers at any level of spiritual growth or maturity. Believers will spend a lifetime seeking the manifestation of the fruits in their lives. The Fruit of the Spirit pamphlet provides insight to how the fruit of the Spirit was evident in the life of Jesus as well as what the fruit truly looks like in the lives of believers.

One of the fruit of the Spirit is love. The pamphlet defines love this way: Love is not based on emotions or feelings. It is a decision to be committed to the well being of others without any conditions or circumstances.

Note: You can print it out, share it with friends, reproduce it, laminate it, and use the e-chart for personal or small group use as is - no alterations may be made to the content or repurposed without written consent of Rose Publishing. Some Parting Fun....

A New York City yuppie moved to the country and bought a piece of land. He went to the local feed and livestock store and talked to the proprietor about how he was going to take up chicken farming. He then asked to buy 100 chicks.

"That's a lot of chicks," commented the proprietor. "I mean business," the city slicker replied.

A week later the yuppie was back again. "I need another 100 chicks," he said. "Boy, you are serious about this chicken farming," the man told him.

"Yeah," the yuppie replied. "If I can iron out a few problems." "Problems?" asked the proprietor. "Yeah," replied the yuppie,

"I think I planted that last batch too close together."
