Rejoice, Rejoice, O Christian, Lift up your voice and sing eternal Hallelujahs to Jesus Christ the King. The hope of all who seek Him, the Help of all who Find! None other is so loving, so good and kind.
This second week of advent we focus on the hope that Christ brings. In Isaiah 40:1-5, 9-11, the hope of the world is prophesied. A cause for rejoicing and gladness where the Glory of the Lord shall be revealed. Comforting words telling us of the victorious coming of the Lord with power and might, yet with all the gentleness of a shepherd. Prepare the way for the Lord, make his paths straight!
We watch and wait, for the Lord is patient toward us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. Therefore, beloved, since you are waiting for these, be diligent to be found by him without spot or blemish, and at peace. - 2 Peter 3:9, 14
As we await the coming Messiah, the tendency can be to get caught up in the seasonal hype; Frosty the Snowman and Up on the Rooftop, while good fun, can easily become the misplaced focus of Christmas. Giving gifts, and even more so keeping score of gifts received, can over shadow the greatest gift of all turning our hearts toward material "things" rather than spiritual renewal.
This week find some time for quiet meditation, listen and reflect upon John the Baptist's message preparing the way of the Lord: --- make straight the paths, ---repent of your sins, ---be baptized, ---and live holy lives devoted to God. Embrace the true spirit of Christmas, God's redeeming Grace through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ, and share this truth with all you meet.
