Logos Christian Bookstore Newsletter
|
Dear ,
The Bible is, among many things, a guidebook for our daily life. It gives us many examples of things we should do and characteristics we should have. Following the guidelines set for us in the Bible can help us live a more complete Christian life. For the first series of characteristics, look at the August 16th and September 6th newsletters; Here are a few more examples of characteristics of a Christian found in the Bible.
- Determination is the firm decision not to quit, regardless of any opposition. Determination is mentioned in Luke 9:62. "But Jesus said to him, 'No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back is fit for the kingdom of God."
- Doing your best is when you put your whole mind, body, and soul into a task. Even though you may not be the best at something, you still need to do your best. Your best is always good enough, but you can also practice and work hard, to try to make your best better. God doesn't care if you aren't the best at something, just give it your best shot, and that is good enough for Him. Colossians 3:23 tells of doing your best. "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men."
- Initiative is the readiness and ability to start a course of action. It is having the quality of leadership. Ephesians 5:15 and 16 says, "See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil."
- Neatness is keeping things clean and in order. 1 Corinthians 14:40 says, "Let all things be done decently and in order."
- Obedience is the submission to God and to those He puts in authority over you. Our parents only want what is best for us, and though it may not seem like it at the time, listen to them, they know what they are talking about. 1 Samuel 15:22 says, "Then Samuel said: 'Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams.'"
- Orderliness is a regular pattern, arrangement or method of carrying our the day-by-day tasks God gives you. 1 Corinthians 14:33 says, "For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all the churches of saints."

12 Unlikely Heroes
|
 | In Store or On-Line |
They faltered. They struggled. At times, they failed. Yet God worked through them in incredible ways to accomplish his purposes. In Twelve Unlikely Heroes readers gain new insights into the kind of people God uses, and what it means to be successful in his eyes. Readers receive deep biblical teaching and inspiring life instruction from Bible characters like: Joseph: a slave who saved his country and his family Miriam: the sister who helped shape one of Israel's foremost deliverers Samson: an uncontrollable man whom God empowered and used Jonathan: an heir to a throne he was willing to give up Esther: the woman God used to spare the Jewish people Mark: a coward who was restored and wrote the second gospel Onesimus: a runaway slave who became a minister And more! Twelve Unlikely Heroes highlights this wonderful mystery: that God uses weak, foolish, and broken people to showcase his power, wisdom, and love. He works through those who are humble, contrite, and eager to obey. By God's grace and for his glory, ordinary sinners are unexpectedly transformed into heroes of the faith.

The Joshua Code
|
 | In Store or On Line |
The Israelites finally had land and the opportunity to start anew. Their leader, Joshua, spoke wisely about how to follow God's law and how to be successful. Joshua 1:8 says, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." The Joshua Code is a challenge to keep the Word in our mouths through memorization and in our hearts through meditation "day and night."
The fifty-two chapters in this volume are designed to lead you on a yearlong journey by spending each week memorizing and meditating on one Scripture verse so that it becomes a living part of your very being. Topics include grace, temptation, the three levels of prayer, fruit of the spirit, and more. The outlines in each chapter can also be used by the busy pastor or Bible teacher for guiding their members. God's Word is powerful and profitable when studied and applied by anyone, the young and the seasoned believer alike.

CREEDS and
HERESIES Chart
This beautiful pamphlet contains the full text of the Apostles Creed, Nicene Creed, and Chalcedonian Creed, and explains why they are important to learn today.
In 14-pages you will take a simple easy-to-understand look back to the historical teachings of the church, and bring them to life for today's believers. During the time of the early church (AD 30-AD 400) some key beliefs were misunderstood by Gnostics and other religious groups. Some people couldn't tell the difference between the teachings of Jesus' apostles and the notions that were common in society. It was important to put together short summaries of the essential doctrines of the faith. Many of the phrases were written to address particular false beliefs.
The pamphlet shows that many of the questionable teachings of 2000 years ago are still around. Understanding how the church dealt with these issues in the past helps us to deal with those same issues today. 14 panels, fits inside most Bibles, 8.5 x 5.5 inches, unfolds to 38 inches long.
A clear simple explanation of the church's response to ancient heresies, many of which are common in today's cultic groups and other religions. Note: You can print it out, share it with friends, reproduce it, laminate it, and use the e-chart for personal or small group use as is - no alterations may be made to the content or repurposed without written consent of Rose Publishing. All materials are copyrighted. Download is available through September 30, 2012. |

Some Parting Fun....

A mother and sons sat in church one Sunday as the minister delivered a sermon based on the timeless story of the prodigal son.
When he got to the point where the father sees his son returning and races out to meet him, the minister said, "Throwing wide his arms, the father said ......"
At which point the youngest son leaned over and whispered
