CELEBRATING THOSE WHO MADE A DIFFERENCE
Once again this year we had the privilege of "Celebrating a Community that Cares" at our Annual Recognition Breakfast on May 16.

And once again, we were proud to honor the organizations and individuals that generously committed time, talent, resources and energy to make the community a better place for us all.

Aurora University's Wackerlin Center for Faith and Action was recognized with a LIVE UNITED award for partnering with FVUW to create and launch Volunteer Fox Valley-a virtual volunteer resource center that connects volunteers with local organizations that need their assistance.

We also acknowledged Kendall County Sheriff Richard Randall and Kane County Sheriff Patrick Perez with LIVE UNITED awards. In addition to all of their other charitable work, the Sheriffs have served as honorary campaign chairs for FVUW since 2008.

This year's Volunteer of the Year awards were presented to retiring board members, John Potter, Gail Bumgarner and Tom Lindblom. Each has served on the FVUW board for the last six years, providing essential leadership and furthering our mission to advance the common good in the Fox Valley.

Welcome new Board Members

Two top suburban business leaders - Ricardo A. Alvarez and Susan A. Bill - have joined the Fox Valley United Way (FVUW) Board of Directors.

Alvarez is the facility manager at the Caterpillar Aurora Plant, in Montgomery. He is responsible for plant operations, quality and technical services and for the facility's ability to reach Caterpillar corporate targets and goals.

Bill is a treasury services advisor at Castle Bank, Yorkville, where she manages an investment portfolio that totals more than $100 million.

The Illinois General Assembly adjourned its spring legislative session without adequately addressing either the looming decrease in revenues or current spending obligations, and passed a $37.5 billion budget built on accounting and revenue that may never materialize.  To learn more about a budget that presents serious concerns for human service providers click here.
