MANY thanks to the more than 300 volunteers who tackled clean up, painting and landscaping projects at eight different Kane County sites as part of Operation Helping Hands on June 16, 2012.
Operation Helping Hands, a collaboration between Fox Valley United Way, Ginger Creek Community Church and the City of Aurora encourages volunteers to lend a hand to Fox Valley social service organizations that serve families and individuals who need support. Additional sponsors included Aurora Housing Authority, East Aurora School District 131, and Emmanuel House.

The 2011 Community Needs Assessment This year, for the first time, Fox Valley United Way collaborated with the Kane County Health Department, the five hospitals serving Kane County, the United Way of Elgin and the INC Board to conduct a comprehensive community assessment. You can view the document and learn more about the state of our community, and how our partners intend to continue moving the needle forward in public health. Printed copies are available at the Fox Valley United Way office. |

The General Assembly left Springfield on May 31 after passing Medicaid reform and a $33.7 billion FY '13 budget but failing to address the state's pension crisis.
Each of those three big-ticket items -- Medicaid, the state budget and pensions -- impacts United Way's work in our core issue areas of Education, Income, Health and Sector Strengthening. Until legislators find a solution to the state's unsustainable pension costs, there will be continued pressure on state agency budgets.

Feed the Hungry Initiative The number of individuals and families seeking food assistance continues to grow in our local communities. Fox Valley United Way partners, the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry and the Kendall County Food Pantry, have seen increases of more than 50% in the number of people being served just in the last year alone! Last month, the two pantries served 20,000 of our local residents; half of them children.
To learn more about how you can help fight hunger in your community click on the pantry logo that serves your area.
