"As a grocery retailer, providing hunger relief is a top priority for us," said

Jewel-Osco President Brian Huff.  "Therefore, we are proud to partner with Fox Valley United Way on its Souper Bowl of Caring, which will benefit many in the community who are struggling with hunger and in need of food assistance".

SPARK Ignited!
Mayor Tom Weisner speaking at the SPARK press conference

For the last three years, the Fox Valley United Way Success by Six Committee has been studying early education opportunities in Aurora and determining ways to improve success in school through quality preschool care and education for all children. The result of these efforts, the SPARK Initiative - Strong, Prepared And Ready for Kindergarten - announced a two-year $250,000 matching funds grant from the Dunham Fund at a press conference on January 12. The Fox Valley United Way and the Dunham Fund were joined by City of Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner and the superintendents of the four partner school districts for the event. Click here to read more.

3,500 Thank Yous!
The Accounting Team at Exelon in Warrenville joined in a friendly competition to raise money for the 2011 Holiday Assistance Program. Their "Penny Wars" contest divided staff into 3 teams who received a point for every penny placed in the team's jar. If an opposing team deposited a nickel, dime or quarter, it negated 5, 10 or 25 points from that jar. Together the 3 teams collected more than $3500 which was used to purchase grocery gift cards for 71 local families to buy needed food items dExelonuring the holidays. What a great fundraising idea! Many thanks from Fox Valley United Way to all the Exelon employees who participated.

Gift Wrap Station
Before Christmas, volunteers from the Fox Valley United Way Resource Development Committee raised money by offering holiday gift wrapping at Westfield Mall. We were joined by Whitney Rusin, Student Activities Director @ West High and a number of enthusiastic West High students. Also, Karen Kulzer & Ashley Preciado and the young, gifted musicians of the Fox Valley Academy of Music and Art from Oswego provided wonderful entertainment for those waiting for their packages to be wrapped. A total of $1,624.65 was raised over the two day period. A BIG THANKS to all the volunteers who helped make this holiday event such a success!
