What Great Students We Have
More than 90 students, all Gustafson scholars at Waubonsee Community College, undertook hands-on Global Youth Service Day projects earlier this month at Mutual Ground, Hesed House, the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry, Family Counseling Center and the City of Aurora Transportation Center (where Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner thanked them for their work).

The Gustafson scholarships are awarded to local high school students based on their academic, leadership and citizenship characteristics. Named for Lucile Gustafson, a member of the college's original Board of Trustees, the scholarships provide full tuition for two academic years at Waubonsee. In return, students perform 10 hours of service in the community and 10 hours for the college each semester. | |

Volunteer
Is volunteering your thing? |
Financial support is important, especially in today's economy. But volunteers are important, too. Here are two of the many volunteer opportunities available now:
* The Salvation Army's Golden Diners program, serving seniors throughout Aurora and Kane and Kendall counties, is looking for volunteers. Drivers are needed to help deliver meals to homebound seniors.
Click here for information or visit the Salvation Army's website for more volunteer opportunities.
* You also can volunteer with Kendall Cares, a Yorkville-based coalition of organizations that assists the underserved in Kendall County. On May 21, the Kendall Cares Clinic will be open at Plano High School to provide a variety of free medical and support services. Click here to see how you can help! |
