When was the last time you did something difficult...on purpose?
That question inspired Denise Paul and three of her friends to join No Boundaries this past fall. Before embarking on this adventure, she had never run more than a quarter mile. She categorized herself as "not a runner", but she wanted to challenge herself. She followed the training program, did her "homework" and 10-weeks later she conquered the Mitten Run 5k - without walking! Imagine how satisfyingly awesome it was for Denise to be able to answer the question that started it all in one simple word: "Today". I believe that life is what we make of it. Ultimately it is up to us to charter our course. We can let the bumps and valleys of life get in the way of our dreams or we can do something about it. We are surrounded by opportunities for happiness and adventure, but oftentimes we choose to ignore the invitation because it would mean leaving the comfort zone of our daily routine. We might have to wake up earlier, brave the cold, take the stairs, eat more vegetables or celebrate happy hour in a gym instead of at the local bar. Usually it requires a little discomfort, a lot of sweat and exiting life's expressway. But almost always, it is totally worth it. If you need more inspiration to make a change in your life, check out this awesome clip from The North Face that poses the question "When's the last time you just stopped...and went?". If you were given the choice to go on with your normal day or go on an epic adventure, would you? If you were given the opportunity to get healthier, learn to run - or to run further, faster, or just enjoy it more - would you? The choice is yours. Join us in 2015. Do something difficult...on purpose! |

No Boundaries (Learn to Run 5k)
Two Sessions: Saturday (9am) & Sunday (4pm)
Starts January 10 & 11
In Partnership with New Balance
No Boundaries is a nationally recognized training program designed to help you run your first 5K (there is also an "advanced option" for those who can already run a 5k but want to improve). The 10-week program will guide you safely and effectively into becoming a runner, while teaching you valuable tips on healthy living for life.
We utilize run/walk intervals to slowly and safely ramp the time you spend running and the distance covered each practice and will teach you the keys to Good Form Running to help you run more efficiently
(and enjoyable) as well as reduce the chance for injury. Need more inspiration? Check out this video. The Saturday program will be led by Coach Rich, who has coached over a dozen No Boundaries programs for us. Rich was an All-American who flirted with running a 4 minute mile in his youth, but now shares his joy of running with us. Rich's enthusiasm and non-intimidating nature will help you find joy in running too! The Sunday program will be led by Coach Amy (in the middle of the photo at right), another experienced NoBo coach who actually started as a participant in 2009 after her sons signed her up as a gift. Since then, Amy has gone on to run several half marathons with friends/running partners she met through the program, but loves giving back and helping newbies realize their dream of becoming a runner.
