Students from northwest Iowa high schools visited Maurer Manufacturing as part of their High School Academy program curriculum this month. The students met with Lacy Enderson, Human Resources Director, to discuss job applications, insurance policies and additional human resources procedures before heading into the shop for a plant tour. Students also completed "Safety Orientation", which included films, lectures and written quizzes, as well as fork lift training.
Currently, students are splitting their time in rotations to learn different manufacturing skill sets. At these rotations, students will spend time exploring: Fabrication, CNC plasma cutting, CNC laser cutting, CNC brake, Steel trailer weld, Steel dump trailer weld, Paint, Finishing and Assembly, Aluminum trailer weld, and warehouse training.
--- Lacy Enderson says the program allows students to explore the many opportunities available in Manufacturing.
"Maurer has partnered with the area high schools, Iowa Lakes Community College, IowaWORKS and the Iowa Lakes Corridor, to introduce students to the world of manufacturing," said Enderson. "During the program, students gain hands on experience in all areas of manufacturing, from engineering, fabrication and weld to shipping and receiving. The students join the Maurer team in developing, designing and creating a product, and we are proud to be a part of this excellent program."
