A Letter from the Director of Play and Learning

At the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples (C'mon), we pride ourselves on being an educational facility that adds excitement, curiosity and fun into the learning process! February starts off with a blast. If you haven't been in to see our new ROCKETS exhibit, you are missing out on a great family fun and learning opportunity. Every child loves to launch a rocket and at C'mon this fun has a purpose.

From the principles of trial and error, persistence, teamwork, air pressure, trajectory and aerodynamics, the learning opportunities are endless. They happen effortlessly and almost in a hidden way. This is how children learn best! By putting their hands on the learning and sparking their own curiosity, they take ownership of what they are learning. It gives them the chance to choose their own learning adventure. As they watch their rocket blast off they think, "Should I change what I did before, test again, improve or give it another go to see if the same results happen?" Sounds like a scientist's brain at work to me! YES!! That's exactly what's happening. Our scientists, architects, designers and makers are learning every minute of every day.

The designers, educators and leaders of the Museum are right there learning with them too. We put our mission and passion into everything that you see in the Museum. First and foremost, we love seeing families interacting and playing together. Secondly, we know we have succeeded when we see children learning in a new way that almost seems as if it's playing. Lastly, together, the C'mon team and parents, have the chance to spark a dream of the future aerospace engineers and provide lifelong learning within the Museum walls.

We look forward to being part of your February and beyond. C'mon over and let your little learners' minds open up to all that the Golisano Children's Museum of Naples has to offer.

Yours in Play and Learning,

Collections Update
Feature of the Month: DROR, Bird of Peace

This month's featured artwork is DROR, Bird of

Peace. This amazing bronze sculpture was created by artist Tobi Kahn. With a legacy of modernism and abstraction, Kahn shows his interest in simplified forms in this piece. During a recent gallery visit, Kahn expressed how honored he is to be represented in C'mon's collection and to be a part of our unique approach at bringing fine art to our visitors. What do you think DROR means? Check back next month for the answer!

CCPS Volunteer Program Art Exhibit
Artist: Miguel Leon, Golden Gate Elementary, 2nd grade

This month only, the Loos Art Gallery will be hosting a special art exhibit with the Collier County Public School Volunteer Program. CCPS students were challenged to interpret "What Volunteers Mean to Me" through art in this district wide contest. The exhibit will feature art by students in grades K-8.

1,000 Ways YOU Can Make a Difference

Every $1,000 will:
  • Support a science Saturday
  • Support 5 classes on field trips
  • Provide art supplies for 40 activities
  • Provide 7 kits for school programs.

Over the last year, thousands of children and their families have visited C'mon to play, learn and dream together. You can help us keep the dream alive so even more families can experience the magic of the Museum. YOU can be the ONE to support the educational programing at C'mon.

When you help us meet our goal of 1,000 at $1,000. As you can imagine, with over 4,000 children visiting on field trips and over 170,000 visitors a year, these kits have a lot of wear and tear and need to be replaced often.
