California HME Update
Urgent! Take Immediate Action on House and Senate Binding Bid Bill

Legislation was introduced in the House and Senate in the 113th Congress to require proof of licensure before a supplier can submit a bid, and to require a bidding supplier to obtain a bid bond in the next round of competitive bidding. On June 19, 2014, Reps. Tiberi and Larson introduced the Medicare DMEPOS Competitive Bidding Act of 2014 (H.R. 4920). Senator Portman and Cardin introduced the Senate companion bill (S. 2975) on December 4, 2014. This legislation was a common sense approach to address major flaws in the current bid system. Attached is the American Association for Homecare's Issue Brief and FAQ document regarding this legislation.

Reps. Tiberi and Larson and Senators Portman and Cardin plan to jointly reintroduce this legislation in the new Congress early next week. They are working to get as many original cosponsors on the bills as possible before introduction. The deadline for original cosponsors is CoB this Friday (January 9th).

Please contact House and Senate offices in your state delegation(s) ASAP and request that they agree to be a cosponsor of the binding bid legislation.

House members should contact Rep. Tiberi's staff, Senate Republicans should contact Portman's staff, and Senate Democrats should contact Senator Cardin's staff. House and Senate staff will have the contact information for these offices.

Thank you for your help with this important matter.  Please let me know if you have any questions or need additional information.
