Photonics Companies Encouraged to Apply for Partial
Reimbursement of High Level Internships
 
Colorado Department of Labor has opened a new program to partially reimburse advanced industry companies for internships. Qualified interns will be enrolled full-time in a secondary school, adult education, college (undergraduate), certificate/training program or have graduated within the past six months. Companies must apply and receive approval for reimbursement prior to the start of the internship.

Meadowlark Optics (Meadowlark) Announces Two New Analog SLMs

Meadowlark launches two new analog Spatial Light Modulators with resolutions of 1920 x 1152 and large format 512 x 512. SLMs are used to control incident light in amplitude, phase, or the combination of both on a pixel-by-pixel basis for computer generated holography (CGH) used in optogenetics, microscopy, wavefront correction, beam steering, telecommunications and more. Advanced Industry Investment Tax Credit
The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade is now accepting applications for the Advanced Industry Investment Tax Credit for 2016. The funding pool for 2016 is $750,000, and the credits are allocated on a first-come, first served basis. The investment must be an equity security of at least $10,000. Convertible debt does qualify as equity for this program, and the investor must hold no more than 30% of the voting power before the investment, and less than 50% of the voting power after the investment. In order to apply for this credit, both the investor and the investee company need to set up an account with OEDIT. Photonics-based companies are included in the Electronics Sector of the state's Advanced Industry programs. NIST Call for First Open-Topic Manufacturing Institutes
Response Deadline March 22, Proposers Day March 8

On February 19, 2016 the U.S. Commerce Department's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced a competition for the formation of up to two Manufacturing Innovation Institutes to join the growing National Network for Manufacturing Innovation (NNMI). This competition will be the first NNMI solicitation in which proposals will be accepted on any advanced manufacturing topic. The press release calls out biopharmaceutical manufacturing and manufacturing robotics as two topics of interest and the RFI lists 6 topics of interest.
