Greetings!
| The past year was full of positive change and engagement for United Way and the Greater Nashua community. We forged new partnerships and enhanced existing ones. We kept some time-honored traditions, but made them better. As we look back on this year of transition, we thank YOU -- whether you give, advocate, or volunteer -- for helping advance the common good in our community. And we look forward to working together toward an even stronger community in 2013.

New Twists to Campaign Increase Engagement, Add Excitement
Once again, the fundraising campaign kicked off with the popular volunteering event, Day of Caring, which drew more than 330 volunteers from local businesses who worked at area non-profit organizations on September 11. Instead of the traditional breakfast send-off for volunteers, UWGN treated the workers to an afternoon "thank-you" barbecue at St. Philip Greek Orthodox Church. Many other area residents who could not volunteer for the day participated in a community collection drive via UPS' 'stuff the truck' event. A few weeks leading up to Day of Caring, BAE Systems sponsored United Way's Corporate Challenge, which matched donors' gifts, inspired engagement on Facebook, and generated $10,000 to kick-start the campaign.

UWGN Co-sponsors First Greater Nashua Youth Leadership Summit
|
More than 125 "tweens" and young teens came to Nashua Community College on October 27 to learn about becoming a leader by making good choices. The first Greater Nashua Youth Leadership Summit emphasized the importance of being a community leader, and was sponsored by UWGN and hosted by the college. Speakers included NH Governor John Lynch, the Leadership Institute's Mike Weber, and Nashua Mayor Donnalee Lozeau.

A New Opportunity for Unity in Community
| In January, the UWGN Board of Directors appointed Nashua native Paul Hebert, a 20-year UWGN donor and volunteer, as the organization's new president following the retirement of Don Mattise. Paul stepped in to address the challenges in our community and provide a vision and direction that emphasizes collaboration.
Paul's blog post about partnership with the Front Door agency is just one example of our vision for unity in our community.

Special Night to Thank Donors, Volunteers
| Representatives of top-contributing area companies, plus non-profit organizations and many individual donors and volunteers turned out on May 30 for UWGN's Annual Celebration. The Nashua Country Club was transformed into a town common-like setting for an evening of networking and appreciation.
Please "SAVE THE DATE" -- May 16, 2013 -- for our 2013 Annual Celebration at the Country Club. We can't give away many details now, but expect a "boat load" of fun!

Uniting Community in Substance Abuse Fight
| Preventing substance abuse requires a community commitment. In 2012, Beyond Influence -- a UWGN program -- led a network of community partners in efforts to reduce substance abuse in the region. Their work promotes behaviors that measurably improve the health and well-being of our youth and young adults, with a focus on alcohol, tobacco, and other drug prevention. Highlights this year included two free 'Prescription Medicine Take-Back' Days, and multiple activities during Red Ribbon Week.

Still Time to Make an Impact
| If you already have made a contribution to this year's UWGN fundraising campaign, we thank you. Your gift will help build a stronger community as we seek to advance the common good.
If you would like to make a secure, tax-deductible contribution prior to December 31, please visit our Donate page or our special Cruise Incentive page. When combined with others' gifts, your contribution will do much more good than any single donation could. Thank you!
